Has anyone else gotten a surprise deposit from the federal government?
My SS is $800 a month which hit last week.
I called to check my balance, expecting it to be $200 or so. BUT the balance was $7,000-something! I fell out of my chair!
For a variety of a tech issues I can’t log in to my online account at the moment, to try and puzzle it out. (BTW, no need to preach at me about what to do with that surprise money. I already know.)
I’ll call again tomorrow to see if the bank got any more info.

<sigh> I didn’t get any.
I wonder if the reason you can’t log in now is because there was an error and they know it and are working on it.
Well she didn’t say that.
@smudges, trust me. You don’t want a surprise deposit like that!
Guess I’ll sit on it for a year! Or 3.
@Dutchess_III is it possible some kind of death benefit for Rick from SS or elsewhere? just guessing.
I have a friend who applied for SS Disability (not sure if it was for her or her child) and she said that they (either her or the child – whoever the recipient was) got back SS, retro. Maybe you got retro?
Dutch, are you collecting on your SS or your husband’s? If yours, can you collect on Rick’s? Oftentimes the man’s SS is higher.
I got a large retro payment years ago when the judge first gave me SSD. 5 figures.
My son figured it out. I had applied for Rick’s SS but understood they’d send a letter with their determination, but the math adds up. I haven’t gotten a letter. I’ll probably get it next week. Kinda like tornado sirens in Kansas! Ya think?!
Pennies from heaven, can’t argue with it!
Unless it was a mistake and they come back after it and it’s not there!
Glad you figured it out, and I’ll bet you’re right.
