How can I get back on a normal schedule for medications?

Asked by MakeItSo1701 (13712points) 1 month ago

I take mine too late. I want to take them 8 hours earlier.

Do I skip a day? I don’t want to take too much in 24 hours

A Q for your doc. No one here is going to advise you to skip a day, or double up, especially since we have no idea what your meds are or what they’re for.
Get a plastic weekly pill minder for the future.

Ah. Okay. Didn’t think it was that complicated. They are just mental health meds.

“Just”? They OTC?

MakeItSo1701's avatar

Nope. Sorry for the question I didn’t realize

Are they prescription meds?

If your meds came with some instructions, looks for the section that says what to do if you miss a dose. That should tell you whether to take an extra or wait till the next dose is due.

Then you can adjust from there.

Yeah prescription

You can also call your pharmacist and ask them how to space your meds so you can get back on track.

Some medications are better in the morning and some better at night, you might want to check regarding the med you take.

Do you take it only once a day? You can take it one hour earlier and in a week you will be at the time you want. Depending on the drug you might be able to do two hours or more. Do you want to share what drug it is?

@Jeruba‘s correct. All of my meds have a section in the instructions that tell you what to do if you miss a dose. That’s what I would follow.

The OP isn’t missing a dose.

Then she should call the pharmacist, or better yet, the doctor that prescribed. I would just skip a dose. Psych meds aren’t as critical as ones like BP meds. Their half-life is longer. I’m not a doctor.

Medication typically should be taken within one hour of scheduled time. So moving it one hour early is basically taking it on time.

Antibiotics I would not skip a dose. I would figure if I was taking. High dose or low dose and then decide what to do. Moving it an hour would work, but might be able to just take two doses closer together moving it 3 hours. Same with antivirals. Too far apart and you let the infection grow. Too close together might be a bad strain on the liver or kidneys and side effects.

BP, psych, I would slowly move over days to the time I want.

I’m sure the OP will check with their doctor. I doubt anyone would just follow web advice.

Some people WILL though, so one has to be carefull dispensing it.
