When will Fluther be opened to new members again?
There was a real, legitimate reason to close the doors. A person was seriously harassing a female member repeatedly and dangerously.
We are stagnant. We rehash the same thoughts over and over.
Surely there are ways to deal with a seriously dangerous troll.

Many sites have a filter that you must be a member for 24 hours before you can post. Would that be hard to program, Ben?
So they would just wait 24 hours. I’m not sure what that would accomplish if they wanted to be a member.
I would like to recommend a vouching system, where Jellies can vouch for new members.
@smudges The point of the blackout is that they were getting hundreds of spams daily. If there is a wait period, I’m thinking the bots will not try to repost.
Perhaps SESH can have a session regarding this question. ;-p
SESH is a company founded by Ben Finkel.
@RedDeerGuy1, but we’d have to somehow know a newbie to vouch for them.
I don’t want to share Fluther with people I know.
@chyna ok me too. What are some other methods of screening people?
Can you even screen for bots? Isn’t that what whole “Click on the pictures that show a stop sign” is for?
I had no idea fluther was closed to new members.
Can fluther set up questions to help guard against bots?
I have a couple bots, posing as years long members, I’d like to report!
Bots can pose as members for years?? I don’t believe it.
^^^ I think that might be a joke.
Yeah, I agree with this post. I stay on Fluther mostly out of habit but you’re absolutely right. It’s the same old shit every day.
To clarify, the site was closed because of dangerous sexual harassment by a person against a female jelly. It was not closed because of spam.
24 hour limit won’t stop stalkers, just limit spam.
<sigh> I can be gullible.
We all can @smudges. You could ask a question about that!
