Does your country warn you of countries you shouldn't visit?
Canada is telling us to not visit the states for a while.
Gee I wonder why?
Should point out it’s not illegal to go to the states, the Government is just saying we should stay clear for a while, for what like 4 years?

Yes, the State Department will issue travel warnings at various times.
Do the warning ever surprise you??^^
@SQUEEKY2 I’m curious WHY the Canadians put out that warning about the US. Did they give any rationale?
It’s no less safe today than it was yesterday (unless you are an undocumented worker).
Or was this purely theatric.
Personally I think theatrics is part of because of the tariff threat, they rather we spend our money in a country that appreciates us.
Just my opinion.
I found this:
Canada is currently advising its residents to exercise caution when traveling to the United States due to concerns regarding recent legislative changes in the US, particularly regarding restrictions on abortion rights and LGBTQ+ protections, which could potentially impact Canadian travelers accessing necessary healthcare and facing discrimination while visiting certain states; this has led to concerns about safety for Canadians traveling to the US.
It is not safe because ICE will sweep you off the the street and put in jail., if they think you are an illegal alien.
They don’t tell us, we just have a website that you should check. Although you don’t need to check it if you have common sense.
It’s hard to feel bad for a single woman going to India, for example.
Or some bright eyed college kid going to Darfur because they just wanna see what it looks like.
^Or anyone going to North Korea.
Do you have a link, @SQUEEKY2 because I googled it and only found a warning for LGBTQ travelers from 2023. Nothing for travelers in recent times, that I found.
Good fact check @jca2.
@Tropical_Willie but they don’t sweep you up on such suspicions unless you’re brown.
All I can go by is the Provinces Premiers were on the news saying it would be safer to avoid traveling to the states for the time being.
^^^ I don’t blame them.
Further they have information that most of us don’t have.
Scary.
Yes, the US has warnings not to travel to certain countries. Currently, for Canada it is to exercise normal precautions. Here is the link: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories.html/
That Canada recently issued a warning about LBGT in the US is a little odd, nothing has really changed regarding that from 6 months ago to today. Trump declaring there are two genders doesn’t change the debate that has been going on about transwomen in women’s bathrooms.
As far as access to healthcare for pregnant women, as long as they are issuing the same warnings for other countries that don’t have abortion access then I can understand that warning for certain states.
Edit: I’m in Florida and plenty of Canadians are here as usual in January.
2nd edit: this is Canada’s travel warnings. It says US is normal precautions and is green. https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/united-states
@jca2 I see, so a reaction to what was happening in the individual states I guess. I don’t see it on the current Canada warning.
Was it the NAACP that issued that warning a couple of years ago telling minority groups not to go to Florida? I was so annoyed about that.
I understand people not wanting to give tourist taxes to a state that has policies they disagree with, but they are terrifying people, which is unwarranted.
^ “That Canada recently issued a warning about LBGT in the US is a little odd, nothing has really changed regarding that from 6 months ago to today.”
Nothing has change? The transgender community is under attack. Any woman who might look masculine could be harmed by vigilantes trying to protect bathrooms. I don’t have the energy for this but if you think nothing has changed for the LGBTQ community you are flat out wrong.
@jonsblond You don’t think that was a problem 6 months ago?
Is it a new warning or from 2023? I’m confused. I don’t see the warning on the Canadian government website.
I have seen ICE giving Canadians bullshit while crossing the border, even back during the W Bush administration. The worst behavior I’ve ever encountered from customs officials has been in the US (followed distantly by Canada, who a couple of times wasted a bit too much of our time for no apparent good reason).
That might be enough to keep me out of the US if I were a Canadian during a Trump episode.
But also, ICE has started doing Trump BS already, doing inappropriate “raids”, so I’d be concerned in particular for Canadians who might tend not to appear Aryan enough to ICE neanderthals.
@jonsblond it’s not a new warning. It’s from 2023.
I’m asking if there’s a travel warning from Canada to the US that’s current, which is what the OP alluded to. I can’t find anything online.
@JLeslie
I don’t know for sure, but I imagine agencies comb through data and give warnings based off things they see, whether it be comments online, or information about certain aggressive groups and their movements and possible plans.
So to you, it may seem like nothing is new, but someone with a clearance may see a lot and a warning is issued as a precaution.
@Blackberry 100% I agree government agencies look through data. I am not so sure the NAACP did that type of work. It doesn’t matter, we are agreeing about governments and why they put out warnings. Canada does not have the warning anymore on their website. The warning is from 2023.
