How do I extend the plugs in my laptop charging cord?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47231points) 1 day ago

I got a new laptap. I unwrapped the charging cord. The prongs to plug in to the power source are recessed in the socket.
How do I get them out?

I think you need a new charger. I am not sure that is fixable, I have had the ones that fold back, like the prongs are kind of on a hinge. But never one where the prongs are like that.

Can you take a picture?

It’s brand new out of the box. Came with my new compter. It CAME that way.

Are you sure another part of the wire isn’t supposed to connect to that?

My laptop has that same thing, I have a wire with the proper wall plug in plugged into that

MakeItSo1701's avatar

Like there should be a separate wire to connect to that.

It should look like a wall plug in, with 3 black circles instead of prongs. The wall plug in should be on the other end of the wire.

Ok. I’ll look again tomorrow.

But didn’t it come with the PC?

MakeItSo1701's avatar

Yes, that black thing on the right is what I am talking about, and should have come with the PC

I’ll look.
What is the point of that’s extra step?

Maybe in a separate box – - in the bottom.

Found it!
So what is the benefit of this?

MakeItSo1701's avatar

I am not sure why they do that.

The brick with the charger is separate from the “power cord” . . .I have several power cords from different computers over the last 30 years !

The “power cord” use to go in the back of desktops.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I still don’t understand the logic. It’s a lap top.

MakeItSo1701's avatar

Easier to replace if something is damaged. Like if the power brick broke or if the wall plug in broke. Maybe because the brick is more expensive so if you just break the plug in or something it is cheaper to replace?

The expensive bit is the charger. If they make it like this they only need to make one charger for the whole world and just supply the local power cord.

Correct, the AC side supports the local outlets Every other country has different outlets The DC side is always the same.
