Right away. Gas prices will climb and so transportation cost will also climb. That and that fact that import taxes will have to be paid as they enter ports, would mean the prices will be adjusted to take on the tax burden.
Who I feel sorry for is those barely able to buy groceries. Trump is freezing so many things that people on assistance may have to start stealing food. Its already happening. People who barely made end meet didn’t have to pay federal taxes or paid very little. Now they will pay a 25 percent tax on just about everything they need. Trump will say, no food isn’t being taxed but it will be. It will just be added to the price.
It will immediately affect the elderly that live on fixed incomes and the poor.
Billionaires do not care, nor do they notice the price of eggs, milk, gas, electricity or anything else.
Maybe when they kill all of us elderly and poor off, they will start eating their own kind.
I paid tarrifs yesterday on an order of electronic parts for a receiver I’m restoring. Added ~$5 This is double what it would have been previously. This company is about the only one with a wide selection that also allows you to order low quantities so I’m stuck with them. They openly pass a portion of the tariffs to the consumer. Everything is so expensive now anyway, I’ll be surprised if I notice unless I’m told. I just paid $8 for a dozen eggs. It was not that long ago a dozen eggs at Aldi was like 60 cents. I don’t know how people are making it now before the new tariffs go into place.
I feel really sorry for the people in California that will have to rebuild their homes and pay so much more for wood etc., in rebuilding costs due to the tariffs.
My wife and I run a small farm on the side. Ironically, these tariffs will be what finally forces us to increase the price of our eggs.
Tariffs will also be on Chinese goods. So much of the merchandise in our stores is from China.
There was an auto mechanic on the news who was saying that the price of oil changes is now about 50 to 80 dollars and after the tariffs it will go to over 100 dollars.
Lumber from Canada will be up. Liquor from Mexico will be up. So many things, and so many things we get from China, like auto parts, kitchen stuff, appliances, etc. Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh.
Good ole Republicans, complain of inflation now they are going to put it in hyperdrive .
But Ole Felon47 will get his super tax break for the ultra rich which will add trillions to the debt, what fun times.
Immediately. The other thing is it will be another reason that prices go up and never come down.
The sad part is that this will impact those that are in the poverty level the greatest.
