How do you define home?

Not the physical building. What determines that your surroundings are your home, if they are considered as such?
If you’ve lived in several places, which one is home? It might be the area you lived in longest, or that you loved the most, where you were born, or where you’re now residing.

Any place where I can loiter and not get in trouble. Or feel awkward.
I lived in Concord for 26 years, but it never felt like home.
When I bought my new house in Shingletown (a quiet small mountain town), I bonded with the house immediately.
What made the difference?
The Concord house was cramped, noisy, and uncomfortable.
S-town is 25 miles from everything. Grocery stores, movie theaters, fast food, restaurants; all a half hour drive.
Recently, we’ve been trying to sell the house, so a lot of our things are in storage, which makes me feel like I am just visiting here.
Home is where my reading chair, my books and my collection of penguins live.
My room. All my video games, manga, legos. I live in my room, it has always been my safe place.
The night my mom died my sister wanted me to stay at her house (I did anyways), but I really wanted to stay home because my room is my home. I sleep better too, I don’t sleep well at all in other environments, never have.
It is stuffed full of everything I love. I have no room on my shelves, dresser, desk, walls for anything else.
I’d always hide in my room as a kid too. Rough household growing up. Can’t be in kitchen or living room without being yelled at or lectured. Don’t have to walk on eggshells in my space.it is better now
“Home is where you wear your hat”—Lord John Whorfin.
I’ve lived in five states. Illinois, California, Arizona, Nevada, and now Wisconsin. I’ve lived in more than one city in most of those states. My current home I’ve lived in for the past six years is the first home I’ve felt defines this. It’s where I’ve been the most happiest and comfortable.
