I believe the difference is price tag. “Sparkling water” is usually sold in fancier bottles and costs more than “seltzer.”
“Seltzer” is plain water that’s been artificially carbonated with carbon dioxide. The term “sparkling water” implies that the product contains full or partial natural carbonation. Neither beverage contains salt.
Is there a difference in taste? I don’t think so. Also, I add a bit of lemon or lime juice, which would mask any variation.
I have a SodaStream machine that I use with filtered water. The outcome is great, costs next to nothing, and doesn’t create empty bottles.
@Love_my_doggie I think so, too. I used to make fun of the whole Soda Stream thing…until I got one,now I love the thing. I honestly can’t tell the difference between what’s at home and what’s available from the store. The lack of all those plastic bottles was the decider for me.
I’ve been getting flavored sparkling waters in glass bottles and they have something of the taste of soda without the calories or ickiness. I was wondering if there is a difference between that and flavored seltzer.
As far as I can see theyre different names for the same thing.
Adding CO2 to water makes it slightly acidic which effects the taste.
Seltzer water is artificially carbonated, while sparkling water can be naturally carbonated or artificially carbonated.
I can make seltzer water at home with a seltzer charger / CO2 cartridge and a Soda Siphon.
