Why does Trump pardon one of the biggest drug lords in history, if he is so concerned about drugs?

That man got double life plus 40 in prison, far more than child rapists.
Second degree murder is 10–50 years.
Im definately not approving what Ulbrecht did but to me it was excessive.

I hadn’t really heard about the Ulbricht case and had to do some investigation. Setting up a marketplace for drugs on the dark webs seems awfully bold, not to mention foolish. But I think Double Life Sentence plus 40 years was excessive. However I’d have to say that 10 years might be a little light. But that’s me.

There is much that I don’t know about this case or this pardon. Could it be that he was offered a pardon in exchange for help targeting things on the dark web? I don’t know, but that might be worthy of a pardon.

@seawulf575 I think the Libertarians who loved him saw Trumps pre-election promise to free him, and helped him win.
Not something I generally agree with, but as you said im not overly familiar with this case.

Trump likes felons and dictators . . . !

Wow. And so blatant about using the power of the Presidency for a quid pro quo. But I can’t say I’m surprised. To him the “White House”, is a reality show with ratings.
Good or bad, it doesn’t matter to him. He only cares about making headlines, AKA, ratings for people tunning in.

@KNOWITALL If he was responsible for delivering illegal drugs, how does that make him any different than someone in a drug cartel? Because he did it through the mail and didn’t use violence or grow the stuff himself. Last I checked selling drugs by mail is as illegal as it gets. Yes two lifetimes was dumb but I would agree he should get one lifetime. This isn’t a tiny little mistake. He knownly did it to make money and didn’t care about the consequences to himself or his victims.

Because he is a fucking idiot. Next.

Maybe what this tells us is that he is not so concerned about drugs.

We’re all going to need a lot of drugs to see us through the next four years.

Maybe Trump puts the blame less on the pushers and more on the users.

I believe Trump is completely against using drugs and alcohol.

He also seems to not like people being locked up forever for drug crimes.

The War On Drugs has often been viewed as a failure, and punishments sometimes being too harsh.

Maybe he worked some sort of deal with the guy that will benefit Trump once he is out.

@JLeslie “Maybe Trump puts the blame less on the pushers and more on the users.” I thought something along these lines when it comes to Ulbricht. Except he wasn’t a user (that we know of!). I was wondering if Ulbricht was actually manufacturing the drugs and distributing them (like a cartel) or if he was more of a high tech pusher…a distributor. Not that it makes him a better person or anything like that, but maybe Trump’s focus is on those that manufacture the drugs and smuggle them into our country.
