Can someone tell me whats going on with US tarrifs?

The most idiotic, related to the complicated cross border car assembly process, have been delayed. The idiotic rest were on as of today. 25% on everything from Mexico and Canada until the drug problem is fixed, apparently. We’re in a state of emergency, you see.

Agent Krasnov is starting trade wars with all of the colonies’ former allies at the behest of Putin, to destroy the western alliance.

Mr Trump thinks that being a bully is the best way to get people to do what he wants. “Diplomacy” is not a word in his vocabulary.

It seems he has back peddled on Mexico’s tariffs somewhat. For things that were in the agreement with Canada and Mexico trade, he has now said he will honor that agreement and not put taxes (AKA tariffs) on those items already in the agreement. Mexico’s president said she would raise tariffs by Sunday if an agreement could not be met. Basically, the thought of rising food prices was pissing off Maga so he had to peddle that back. I think it’s still on with Canada, and Canada is saying it will cut off power to the States until the tariffs are removed. So, we will see if that works.
As for the auto industry, it seems he peddled that back yesterday for 30 day delay after the auto industry baulked at that as it sent their stocks down.

Super easy. He is using his power to manipulate the markets so he can enrich himself and his friends.

You have to admit it’s confusing. Every day is a new thing. Tariffs on. Tariffs off. Tariffs on. Tariffs off. We look indecisive.

@jca2 Nothing is well thought out. They’re throwing out all this garbage and if you check out my link, a lot of it, including some of the mass firings, is being walked back. It’s hard not to conclude that Trump doesn’t know what he’s doing. Or that he is pushing other governments around and wasn’t expecting the pushback.

It’s fucking ridiculous.

We’ve had Republican Presidents in the past and they were not doing things like Trump is. They were dignified, and they thought things out before they enacted them.

It’s almost as they are throwing mud at a wall to see what will stick; many of the firings associated with DOGE are tied up in court, and it seems the tariffs are headed in the same direction.

They are calling it tariff whiplash. He also fires thousands and then rehires them. It shows he has no idea what he is doing. The worst president ever.

Regarding Mexico and Canada, I guess Trump isn’t happy with what he negotiated when he was president the first time, remember he renegotiated NAFTA to now be called USMCA, so he is redoing it again.

A jelly wrote a Q recently about Trump manipulating the stock market, I think the tariffs being threatened and then not being imposed and all of the back and forth is a stock market manipulation, I wish I had more guts to play the game with him.

For the life of me I can’t imagine that his real estate friends aren’t annoyed with him threatening tariffs on Canada, because the US buy a ton of lumber from Canada. Although, it is probably cheaper now than when it was the highest during covid. My husband worked for a building materials company during covid when prices were going up and up and up, and then by the time he left the company the materials were back down 40%, but of course the final consumer never was very aware of the wholesale price coming down. I don’t know where it is now.

Trump says he doesn’t want the United States to pay higher tariffs on exports than the US is charging for imports. He says it is unfair. He also said something about loopholes in tariffs, like shipping parts to the US not being taxed because the product is assembled here.

Another theory I have read about is that he wants to provoke mass protests so he can declare martial law and round up all the undesirables.

@JLeslie @ragingloli is correct. “undesirables” are anybody who opposed the fascist. I can guarantee that if a trans woman is a pro-Trump person she would be front and center. (I actually know a fascist pro-Trump trans woman believe it or not).
