Any advice and pointers for an Adirondack visit?

Asked by MilkyWay (14108points) 1 month ago

To all the OG jellies, you may remember a very special jelly from this region that passed a while ago.
I’m planning a visit to the States sometime next year and I really wanted to visit this region and possibly lay some flowers on his grave, and see some of the sights he used to talk about. He was a dear friend to me in some troubled times and I’ve often thought about visiting him, now I want to actually go and do it. Definitely plan on doing some hiking also whilst there.
So, could you kindly advise, where should I go and if you have any personal experience in that area? Thank you <3

What town is the grave in?

When I was a teenager, my mom took me to Howe Caverns. That was a pretty cool place.

I could give more advice if I knew what town or approximately what area you are going to.

I was just googling. If you’re going to be anywhere near Lake Placid, that’s a really cute town. It’s cold there. I was there a few times in May (various years) for a work conference. While it was warming up down here where I live in south eastern NY (not far from NYC), it was freezing, literally freezing in Lake Placid. We were all in a factory outlet store buying sweaters and scarves. It’s very pretty up there, and there are cute shops and restaurants, touristy. It was the home of one of the Olympics a few decades ago.

You just brought up so many memories… He was also a good friend of mine. I still remember our Skype sessions and PMs together. He was the person that showed me what real friendship looks like, and with that I had enough courage to leave my toxic relationship.

I wish I could go with you. I don’t have any suggestion for you, but I just hope that when you visit his grave, you can somehow send my regards too.

Thanks for the support and suggestions folks. If anyone recognises his face please PM me as I’m trying to look for his obituary to figure out where to go.
@Mimishu1995 same here. He really touched my soul and helped me find the courage within myself to get through some very dark times. I really hope I can find out where to go. My searches so far have me going around in circles. If you’d like, I can write a message from you also when I go visit friend.

I had researched after he died and I knew his details at that time. Do you not know the details, @MilkyWay?

@jca2 all I have is his name. And his email address which didn’t come up with any results. And some family pictures he sent me but those won’t be of any good. If you’re willing to share anything that can help me figure out a location please message me? I wasn’t here when he passed I found out a while later, although he had told me about his health troubles and surgeries.

Blue Maintain Lake is a very pretty small town in the heart of the Adirondacks. There are many beautiful lakes in the Dacks. Ausable Chasm is a lovely scenic waterfall and ravine to visit. There will be more wild scenery than cultural sites to visit although if you’re interested in history you could visit Fort Ticonderoga which was important in the Revolution.

If you go in the summer go to Gene’s Michigan stand in Port Henry, NY. Unusual hot dog and sauce.
