Does anyone here have access to the NY Times?

Asked by jca2 (17197points) 8 hours ago

Meaning, does anyone here subscribe to the NY Times or have a password that they use?

I ask because today, for the first time, when I look at articles in the NY Times, at the bottom where the comments are, it used to say “comments” or something, and you’d click on it and it would open a sidebar with the comments. Now, for me, it says “Request to read comments” and when you click on that, it says ‘request to read comments’ or ‘cancel.’

I haven’t ever commented on anything, other than clicking “like” or whatever they call the thumbs up.

I am just wondering if it’s like that for everyone. I am also wondering why it is this way and never used to be. If you have access to the NY Times, can you look and see if you get the same thing that I am getting?

I tried googling it but wasn’t coming up with any answers.

I do. Point me to a story that appears to you like this.

It says “read comments” and then when I click on it I can see the comments.

I only have the subscription to the puzzles on their app, sorry. Maybe it was a glitch for a while?

I don’t have a subscription, but depending on the article, could it be a way to stop troll comments or rude comments? An extra step to deter it? I know some sites do stuff like that.

Logged in to NYTimes.com:
I look at an article
I click on “READ 636 COMMENTS”
A sidebar appears showing comments, with a text box inviting me to “Share your thoughts”

Not logged in to NYTimes.com, different browser:
Same result

I looked at my phone and I can see the comments.
