As an American, how would you describe the last decade of American politics?

I’m curious to hear from Americans themselves. I’m from the U.K and the last decade of politics for us hasn’t been great but… I feel the USA is in a league of their own if you get what I mean. So how did you get here and why?
also for any non American jellies like myself, what has been your impression/opinion on US politics?
