Could someone explain what Trump means, when he says Canada has ripped off the states for years?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23653points) 4 weeks ago

And he keeps saying he wants Canada as a state.
We have been going along with the trade agreement he signed and said was the best deal ever, now it’s the worst according to him, we Canada haven’t breached that agreement.
If we had Trump would be screaming it from the rooftops.
A trade deficit is not a subsidy .
So again how are we Canada ripping off the states?

You can’t explain delusions.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Is it that simple?
Problem the guy in charge is the delusional one.

Is it that simple? Probably not. But trying to apply logic to this is impossible. So I reduce it down to a delusion.

He’s lying and making stuff up as always to get his base to support whatever it is that he wants.

I hope our Canadian friends realize that most Americans love Canada and think what Dump is doing is horrific.

It is nothing more than Russian style gaslighting to justify his trade war. It is no different than Putin claiming that Ukraine is ruled by “nazis” and is committing genocide against Russians to justify his invasion.
It is not in any way based in reality.

Yesterday he threatened 200% tariffs on imported liquor from the EU. Every day it’s some new shocking shit.

ragingloli's avatar

@jca2 because we had the audacity to defend ourselves and justly retaliate. Then we have to listen to Krasnov and his claim that the EU was created to screw over the colonies, and his lapdog Greer saying that our retaliation ignores their ‘national security interests’.
Makes me wish our representatives would respond to his face with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdxTDP650uw

Trade/tariff battles involving champagne and orange juice should be called the War Of Mimosas.
