What do you think about Canadians having to be finger printed if they are staying more than 30 days in the United States?

A Canadian woman in my Zumba class yesterday said she might not be back next year, and told me Trump is going to fingerprint Canadians staying over 30 days and that someone here where we live said something rude to a Canadian friend of hers. She said she is feeling it might get very hostile in the US.
I think the rude comment is a one-off, I don’t even understand why any American has a problem with Canadian visitors maybe someone can explain it to me.
Most Canadian snowbirds that I know come to the US for 3–6 months.
I don’t think being fingerprinted is a big deal if staying a long time, although in general our Big Brother society is scary and it is only getting worse. Plus, it is more administrative or processing work.
I don’t understand why only Canadians, or is it actually proposed for all travelers staying over 30 days?
Extra bonus: Are you finger printed? DisneyWorld has my right forefinger print and the US immigration service has a full set of my prints.

The DA’s office has mine.
I was an intern
I don’t understand why 30 days. It sounds annoying.
^^At Disney we are fingerprint scanned every time we walk in. I wonder if they are considering having the same type of scanner at immigration in airports. When Disney first installed them I didn’t even believe they really worked. I’m still skeptical.
Immigration at land crossing would be a real pain. Usually we don’t have to get out of our cars.
I have volunteered in children settings enough to know that my prints are on file. No big deal for me.
There are also enough camera’s in cites that also have people’s images. I don’t see this as an issue. You have a choice to not do this if it means that much to you (figuratively)..
I remember the outrage in Germany after the government mandated fingerprints when you get or renew your ID. People had and have a big problem with being treated like criminals.
Which is what this is. Canadian tourists are being treated like criminals. They are even taking them hostage right now.
Just another reason to boycott the colonies and classify them as an enemy country.
@ragingloli I think most of those stories are just making the news now. I’ve told jellies the story of my SIL being detained with her infant and toddler and she had a green card. That was over 25 years ago. Maybe it is happening more now, but maybe not. It always feels like more when there are news stories.
I’m not saying it’s ok and that ICE doesn’t screw up or be unreasonably harsh sometimes. They screwed up regarding my SIL.
Edit: another story I have told is a woman who lived in the US almost ten years stopped in immigration for having an American business card, turned around at the airport and couldn’t enter the US again for at least ten years. She lived in the US on a tourist visa. Also, around 25 years ago
We use fingerprints on our phones so I don’t see it as an issue, and for security its fine with me.
As farcas insults, I remember a fat Scot in Mexico telling me they hated America back in 2003. If youre on social media many insult us on a regular basis.
We are known for being kind to visitors, especially in my area, so I dont approve of insults unless its reciprocal-as a general policy.
Most Canadians were supposedly selling US vacation homes, I heard so coming during this specific time in history, a little tension should be expected.
China slapped Canada this week, too, so its not just us trying to balance the scales.l
I don’t think it’s going to get very hostile in the US for Canadians. I have never heard anybody say anything expressing hostility toward any Canadian.
I agree with others who say it’s not a big deal.
Just because someone comes from Canada doesn’t mean they didn’t originate somewhere else, so fingerprints help clarify who’s who and from where.
Its just treating Canadians the same as other nationals. If Canada doesn’t want to be the 51st state it should stop expecting to be treated like one.
Fingerprints help detect criminals – no, not all of them – but I see no problem with asking other countries for their fingerprints when entering the US. We have to…what, are there no international criminals in other countries?
Just curious, does the US require fingerprints from Mexico? We should.
Someone detained by ICE is hardly a hostage. She’s coming from Mexico with a revoked visa from TN and saying she’s a Canadian citizen. It would sound fishy to me.
I think it’s outrageous offensive bullshit, and that Trump should be deposed as soon as possible.
I have no plans to cross the border anytime soon, I have only been to the states once in the last twenty years, and at that rate I should be dead and gone before I have to cross it again.
