Do you know that Skype is shutting down?

Asked by Mimishu1995 (23831points) 1 month ago

Skype will no longer be usable in May.

Did you know that? If you did, what do you think about it? Does it affect you? Do you have any alternatives for it?

Yep. Teams has taken over the demand. There will be a free Teams light version to replace it.

Yes. I have used it for years with one person. We’re migrating to Telegram.

I think What’s Ap has probably also taken over some of its base.

A friend who does work from home said her job uses Teams.

I don’t work presently and I don’t do any video chatting with anyone, so Skype shutting down doesn’t affect me.

Yes, I’ll miss it with my sister.

I stopped using Skype 5–6 years ago. Its demise means nothing.

@smudges do you move to another alternative? I have a friend that uses Skype with me for a long time too and I think we have an alternative.

I use Skype all the time to stay in touch with a relative that lives in south America, he says in May we will switch to teams, I hope the learning curve is short.

^^ Me too re: the learning curve!

My friends that I used Skype with are on What’s App. For meetings, my congregation uses Zoom.

@SQUEEKY2 and @smudges – we switched from Skype for Business to Teams at my workplace. It wasn’t a big learning curve. You should be fine. :)
