If Donald Trump called you on the phone, what would you do?

Asked by Jeruba (56278points) 4 weeks ago

My answer is the same as it was in his first term: I’d hang up on him.

Would you try to talk to him? If so, in what manner?

I would think it was a recording or a program mimicking his voice. I’d try to find out what new f-ery this was. I think even if it were actual Trump, I’d probably suspect it was just a sophisticated bot.

I would say in an exasperated tone of voice “what is it this time, Donald” then I would go on to explain how Zelensky is on our side and how tariffs work and no he can’t have Greenland before checking he has been taking his meds.

anniereborn's avatar

Likely throw up as I hung up on him.

I wouldn’t answer if I don’t know the caller, so I don’t know how that would work as he would be calling from an unsaved number.

But since this is a hypothetical question, if he called and I answered, I wouldn’t believe it was him. I would think it was probably a scam or a hoax, and I would hang up. I would figure why would DT be calling a very average citizen such as myself? Therefore, this can’t be him.

I’d be completely amazed that he would bother to call me. I would talk to him and find out why the President of these United States is calling lil ol’ me. I’d love to know what I could offer him that would take time out of his day to reach out to me. And I’d love the opportunity to give him a quick performance appraisal.

I would let it go to voice mail, as I do all the other potential spam calls.

Tell him to call me back on my other number, then give him a number that charges one million € per second.

I wouldn’t believe it was him.

If I somehow knew for sure it was him, I might listen to what he had to say just being in frozen shock, but I have no idea what my reaction would be. Somewhere between telling him all of the things I disapprove of and being afraid I would now be on some government list to monitor everything I say and do.

Maybe I would just hang up. It would be weird for him to call me.

Hang up on him. My personal health and sanity is more important than anything I can say to him.
I also try to not waste my valuable time.

chyna's avatar

I can’t stand his voice so I would hang up immediately.

I’d probably start talking like Joe Biden. HA!

Even if I knew full well that Trump was going to call me ahead of time and I could prepare a statement then I’d still screw it up.

I’d try to be respectful. But what would likely come out of my mouth would gibberish. After the phone call I would beat myself up for sounding like an imbecile. HA!

SnipSnip's avatar

I would probably ask why he was calling.

I’d probably try to talk him into committing suicide…

smudges's avatar

I might ask him how his and Melania’s sex life is going lately, and did she forgive him for fucking around on her.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Depends on why he called. But I’d definately answer.
I’d also ask him to stand up for seniors and low-income families with specific examples of the oppression of both.
Frankly I’d probably talk his ear off in hopes of fixing things.
(If it were Biden or anyone else, same answer. My personal feelings are not important, its about the greater good.)

Pandora's avatar

I’ll probably say, sorry, you got the wrong number. I don’t work for Russia.

anniereborn's avatar

hahah! @KNOWITALL hopes of him fixing things? in what universe is that going to happen?

KNOWITALL's avatar

@anniereborn Anyone in that position has far more chances of fixing things than any of us. Ha!

smudges's avatar

^^ But the desire has to be there, and it’s not.

Blackwater_Park's avatar

I would simply talk to him.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@smudges I think thats a matter of opinion. His approval rating is pretty high. And thats per NBC news, not far right polls.

From March 18, 2025

“President Donald Trump’s approval rating has taken a significant hit, according to America’s most accurate pollster.

According to a poll conducted by AtlasIntel between March 7 and 12 among 2,550 respondents, Trump’s approval rating currently stands at 47 percent, while 52 percent disapprove of his job performance. The poll had a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points.

This is down from previous polls conducted by AtlasIntel in January and February, which found that 50 percent approved Trump’s job performance, while 50 percent disapproved.

AtlasIntel was the most accurate polling company of the 2024 election, according to veteran pollster Nate Silver.”

There’s a chart on the site showing ratings from many news and ratings agencies for March. He’s not doing great – pretty much in the middle. NBC news’ rating for March 7–11 was approve 47, disapprove 51.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@smudges Youre right, Forbes today is at 48% approval.

Oh, Hi Donald. Can you do me a favor? Bend over and put the phone where the the sun does shine. Yeah, Just like you are doing to the rest of the world.

RocketGuy's avatar

I’d ask him what he wanted. Most likely answers would result in some kind of FU response from me. In the unlikely event that he wanted to know what I wanted him to do differently, I’d rattle off as many things I could think of that would be beneficial to 99% of Americans. He’d probably hang up after the first few.
