Are you a WhatsApp expert?

I’m putting together a small group of 13 people on WhatsApp.
But one individual “Joe” isn’t able join. I was successful in sending Joe an invite to my group. But Joe told me that WhatsApp says his phone number is not valid in the USA.

I noticed that Joe has two phone numbers in messenger. One phone umber is a local number and the other is an old phone number from Hawaii where Joe use to live.

I blocked Joe’s Hawaii phone number and then tried to send Joe another request to join WhatsApp. But now WhatsApp says that Joe’s local phone number is invalid.

Far from an expert, but I’ve mostly used it to communicate with my children while they were traveling internationally. A couple of issues to check:

1. I had my WhatsApp phone number banned once for no reason. I contacted WhatsApp support and they quickly fixed the issue and it became valid again. Ask Joe if he has receive a ban notice.

2. Make sure he configured his phone number with the correct country code (+1 for the US).

3. Have Joe message you first, before adding him to any group.

4. I’ve heard of people attempting to use pass-through type numbers, like Google Voice, as their WhatsApp number (unsuccessfully). Make sure it’s the phone number associated with the SIM.
