Do you like jumpscares?
I will die on the hill that they are cheap and annoying. Rarely are they done well, and are usually overdone. I don’t mind a few if it is scary in other ways, not relying on them.
I prefer psychological horror.

I have ptsd and startling easily is one of my issues, so no, I don’t like them. I also think they’re cheap gotchas. Psychological thrillers always.
I have enough fears from watching the news. I don’t need more.
The only horror that I enjoy now is Horrorscopes comics from the 90’s
I don’t enjoy horror. I’ve lived enough of it in real life, that doing horror for “fun” is just nasty.
In film, not so much, but I have to say I enjoyed Halloween at Knott’s Berry Farm, where the lights at the park are dimmed and actors in costume jump out and scare people. I wasn’t expecting to like it, but it was quite the thrill.
I love it, actually. Being scared makes you feel alive. Ha!
I agree with you in that they’re overused and often not done well. Sometimes, though, they’re great.
In movies and on TV they’re just boring. However, at home, rounding a corner and unexpectedly finding another family member – you both jump, yell, and laugh is fun.
