Fortune cookies were invented in San Francisco. They are still made there. Most of the fortunes are about as accurate as a horoscope.

Since they started putting lottery numbers on the back of the fortune, I have never heard of anybody winning a jackpot from a fortune cookie.

So while I have saved a couple of fortunes received while out on a date, I am not dating those women anymore, so I would not consider them as accurate as the I Ching.

In the television series Urban Legends, a large number of people in the US shared a big lottery prize. They all had the same numbers from a fortune cookie.

^^ Doesn’t the fact that it’s called “Urban Legends” make it somewhat suspect?

They are as accurate as horoscope predictions.

@janbb I thought the same thing so looked it up. Snopes said it’s partly true…only one person qualified as the winner, they didn’t share it. But 110 people had the winning number that came from a fortune cookie.

“The sagacious confections had been manufactured at Wonton Food Inc. of Long Island City in Queens, New York. That factory produces four million fortune cookies a day vended under a variety of brands, which is how the cookies came to influence lottery players in so many states.”

I have found the ones that said “You will meet a tall stranger” to be eerily accurate.

But, to be fair, I am barely 5’ tall, so almost all strangers are tall from my perspective.
