Beginner sewing classes in San Francisco?

Asked by occ (4179points) August 12th, 2007

I've tried Stitch in Hayes Valley but it's too expensive and too full of hipsters. I found a place that looks great called Stonemountain & Daughter in Berkeley, but I'm wondering if there's anything like that in SF...cheap prices, good teachers, and not overflowing with hipsters who have asymmetrical haircuts.

Dear occ,

I was going to say you should check out Stonemountain and Daughter! It is wonderful. You will love it. And, if you go on the weekend, stop in at the Ashby BART flea market--definitely worthy of a walk-through.

There is a place in SF called Satin Moon. It is a very expensive fabric store, but maybe call and see if they can give you a lead on sewing classes. Have you tried City College or JoAnn Fabrics? They might have or know of classes. I would think that sewing classes would be offered by a community college...

Maybe the Sewing Workshop? Those hipsters aren't likely to be able to make it out to the Richmond District....
