What is better... An iPod Classic or the new iPod touch?

Asked by lillady604332000 (119points) October 7th, 2008

I plan on getting one of these for my birthday… I want it to hold a lot of songs but I also like that the touch has internet and all that stuff. It’s a hard decision so I need some advice.

Touch, pretty sure the classic will be discontinued eventually. The classic is a basic iPod with a small screen. Yes it can hold a lot but its functionaility isnt there.

With the touch you have all of apples latest efforts. As well as the app store available to you. And i must say i personally love that feature. Plus if you watch any kind of video your going to love the nice big widescreen.

I vote iPod Touch

32GB is better, plus they are going to keep upping the size.

I like the classic. 32 gb isn’t enough for me…

I think the main question is whether you really NEED the internet and other stuff, and if you want video. So if you plan on using it for more than music then get the touch. If you plan on watching the occasional video and listen to music mainly. Then get the classic. I would say get the classic if you plan on holding many songs.

How much is a lot of music in your case? Some people consider a lot of music to be 8 Gigs, other people think 100 Gigs. If you have less than 12 Gigs of music, get the iPod touch 16gig. It’s only $300, so it is very affordable. If you have a little more money, definitely get the 32gig.

I myself have an 8 gigabyte iPod touch, but 150 gigabytes of music on my computer. I don’t listen to it all, so I sync what I want on. I hve an old 120gig iPod that I keep most of my music on for backup.

I purchased a new iPod recently, and chose to go with the Classic. I don’t feel that I need the internet and the various gadgets that come on the Touch- I just want to listen to music, and maybe occasionally watch videos. I have a lot of music, and I didn’t want to sacrifice the ability to hold all of my music with a bunch of stuff I don’t plan on using.

The iPod touch feels, to me, like its an iPhone without the ability to make calls.

@rockstargrrrlie- that’s exactly what it is! You most of the benefits of having an iphone, without one.

I am a strong proponent of an iPod Touch. I carry mine everywhere, and can use it to check tv listings, movie times, play games (and not stupid music quiz!), web surf, e-mail… it really is, as Apple describes it, “a personal wireless platform,” and the iPod is still just a media player.

If you think that 32 GB is not enough space for you, you need to get more creative with genius playlists and smart playlists- these keep my music collection fresh, and I’ve never wanted for anything on my 16 gb touch.

@eambos I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO ADD MUSIC OVER THE YEARS… AS OF RIGHT NOW I HAVE OVER 1000 SONGS ON MY COMPUTER BUT THAT’S NOT EVEN HALF OF MY MUSIC BECAUSE I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ADD FULL CDS AND SO FORTH… SO MAYBE THE CLASSIC IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR ME… I HAVE A SIDEKICK SO THERE’S REALLY NO NEED FOR THE INTERNET AND ALL THAT STUFF BUT WHO KNOWS WHAT MY CHOICE WILL BE… STILL SOME MORE THINKING AHEAD OF ME…

The touch is better if you want the option of using the iTunes app store and having good games and cool applications.
