If you are claiming that many celebrities become more popular once they are dead, than they were when they are alive, then I would have to agree that in many cases, you are correct.
Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison continue to have legions of fans, many years after their demise.

Very much so. Tupac, biggie, big l, j dilla. Though it doesn’t happen to everyone, point in case: the rapper charizma.
It may very well help their popularity, but as far as their career, it’s “Game over, dude.”
Very true, laureth. It would be hard for a certain individual to have a career if that person wasn’t alive. Hahaha!
In my opinion, Dimebag Darrell is another one of the “more famous after death” club members.
Some musicians only become popular after they die (or at least, are recognized in the music community). Especially if they die at their peak – for example, Jeff Buckley.
But yes, “career” is not the right word.
Yeah. it can. but of course it depends on the musician and the case.
People love a mystery. When an artist dies, the speculation of what they may have done with the rest of their career i think confounds people. It makes a good story. A talented musician can suddenly become a legend, almost like a mythic hero who has transcended into another plane. Its hard to say what the height of someone’s career is when their career is tragically cut short.
Jeff Buckley had just started recording his 2nd album when he died. Kurt Cobain had 3 studio albums. Jim Morrison and Elvis both died as their careers were already sliding.
@Marc – Well said! I never really thought about it that way.
It hardly benefits the dead musician who will never play again and who gets no more money.
