Have you scratched your iPhone yet?

Asked by Magnus (2884points) October 13th, 2008 from iPhone

Had mine for a month now, and if you clean it for 30 seconds with a wet cloth it looks new. Is yours like that too? How long have you had yours? I have heard that you can’t scratch the screen, is this true? I deliberatley did not buy a case for mine because I heard you don’t need it.

Blasted Chrome.
Although I must admit I only have a couple of very little scratches, anyone else probably wouldn’t even notice.

my ipod touch which is ten and a half months old now is starting to show some spiderwebbing in the screen and has a few really short cuts in the screen but you can only notice in the right light, I have a decal that i bought from some website which i can’t remember with a design on it with a ribbed rubbery surface so that i can set it down and it won’t scratch the back and it won’t slide everywhere, but where the decal doesn’t cover the backside isn’t to pretty lol

same here the screen is OK the back has some minor scratches. The main problem is the later if grease.

It’s great isn’t it? Mine’s been beaten around quite a bit but as you say, after a little polish, the screen is good-as-new. The back of mine is a little scratched, but not bad at all. I’m impressed with how strong it seems to be.

The iPhone 3G is almost scratch proof. No visible scratches on mine.

Eh.. don’t say scratch proof, whatever you use to clean it if it ever gets something microscopic and is harder than tempered glass, it WILL put a small cut into the screen, get a screen protector, might as well…

spider webbing will definitely show up in time no doubt if not small cuts, but spider webbing is impossible to prevent without a protector. Even if you do use a microfiber cloth, very light sharp/hard materials will get on it and cut up the screen on a very small level, but enough to see it in perpendicular lighting.

I’ve had mine almost a year. I’ve always had a case and a screen saver, and my phone still looks brand new.

Out of interest, what screen covers are you guys using?

I bought one when I got my first iphone but it was a real pain to get on the screen. You had to use some liquid and then wipe all the air bubbles out. It looked horrible and I ended up pulling it off (and haven’t tried another since).. Are they easier than that? I’ve got clumsy fingers!

Mine came with the case i bought. I think it is held on with static. All you have to do is make sure the screen is clean then lay it down. No bubbles, and it hasn’t moved since I placed it.

I got mine the first week. In 15 months withno case (just crystal film on the screen) it was dropped several times, including on asphalt. It had a few pretty deep dings in the chrome bevel, the crystal film saved my screen from the asphalt impact, and the Apple on the back was beyond “spider-webbing”.

The volume switch malfunctioned, so I got to exchange it under my AppleCare last week… now there’s the start of spider webbing on the Apple, but the bevel is still pretty smooth. I still won’t use a case, though… it’s just a phone. The scratches give it character.
