Canadian and American Thanksgiving?

Asked by HotAsIce911 (156points) October 13th, 2008

Why are they on seperate days? Seperate months, for that matter. I am Canadian and today is Thanksgiving Monday, but I know American’s don’t have Thanksgiving until mid – end of November. Does anybody know why this is?

The reason’s behind the thanksgivings are different and not at all date related.
I can figure out why Canada’s is on a Monday, but have yet to understand the Thursday choice of the US

If I remember correctly, Canadian Thanksgiving was onced called Harvest Day. Being north of the US, harvest time comes much earlier and that is why Thanksgiving in Canada comes before US Thanksgiving.

I’m happy as long as there is cake pie.

What, exactly, is “cake pie”?

AstroChuck's avatar

Why, it’s cake baked in a pie crust, Silly!

Oh it’s much better then that. Cake Pie is like…. Heaven on Earth. But instead of Earth is in on small dessert plate.

The Canadian Thanksgiving is earlier because their harvest is earlier. Besides, a month later in the year they would be snowed in and not able to go over the river and through the woods.
