Around 6100 been collecting mp3’s (and now ACC’s) since college and its kept going up with only the odd song being deleted for being awful. Works out at about 27Gb of music.

with simplify media from appstore my 8gig iPhone expanded to the 1tb harddrive on my desktop so I have a bit less than 80g of music

Just under 2000 on my iPod, about 4500 on my computer, at the moment my music collection growth is on hold sadly due to a lack of money, I’m hoping to get some cash soon and grow my music collection :)

I have 3239 “songs” in iTunes (many of which are actually DJ mixes that run 1–2 hours each), for a total of ~31 GB. All of that’s on my iPod, but my 8 GB iPhone just has my favorites (rated 4 or higher) and recently-added tracks.

Around 400 songs. I just keep the ones I really like.

how in the hell do you listen to 6000 songs? Is there any real point to having those on an iPod? I understand on iTunes but that’s a music library

I don’t listen to music on my PC I listen to music on the iPod.

On the iPod I have smart playlists (which will update on the ipod in the same way as they will on the PC) set up that play songs that I haven’t listened to in a while from various different genres. I can therefore decide what genre I want to listen to and be sure that I’m going to hear something that I like and that I haven’t heard recently allowing me to rediscover old favourites.

If you manually copy over only a few hundred songs at a time you will end up listening to the same stuff over and over again, and if you are going to do that you might as well use a portable CD player and get better sound quality.

What makes the iPod great is that it allows you to listen to your music in different ways.

One of the good reasons to have so many songs is the new “Genius” system on the new iPods and iTunes. It selects songs that go well together, more songs = better matches.

@smullane, you never know when you’re going to get the undeniable urge to listen to that song you’ve only actually listened to once or twice. it happens.
