Why do so many grown-ups love to play dodgeball?
It’s a fun game, but is there some underlying psychological reason that we love a children’s game so much?

i go to this park where they play hand ball with that little blue ball.. and there are always older men playing and they are all betting on who’s gonna win.
ooooh, and did you ever play wallball as a kid? That was a great game because you got to throw the ball really hard at your buddies. I’m going to look up the rules to that one and play it again.
You get to hit people with a ball and it’s not considered childish or inappropriate. In the adult world, where you are supposed to be so PC and mature, why WOULDN’T you love dodgeball? you get to attack people and then get praised for it :)
Because kids games allow us to forget how unbelievably complicated we’ve let our adult lives become – if only for a little while.
Um.
I have this theory.
We never grow up. We just stop doing things society deems as child’s play because we don’t make time for it and the stigma of playing is too detrimental to one’s reputation. It’s all a societal farce, playing is always fun and refreshing regardless of your age.
Go beyond and think beyond the constraints of society and you will find yourself a more free, and enlightened individual.
If you ever find it hard to think outside of the box [society], just think about how different every society is. Why wouldn’t you follow the tenets of another society? What’s stopping you?
But I digress.
@squirbel: I think you just might be brilliant. Great answer.
It’s the joy of hitting someone.
I think if the grown ups I hang out with all got together and played dodgeball together it would result in at least one ambulance…
Because it’s fun, fast-paced game that is really more suited to adults than children.
And I don’t play it. Ultimate Frisbee for me.
