Cool question. I’d love to try quoting Fluther in an essay sometime. A lot of my profs seem open-minded enough to accept it.

Where are you at school, shadling? I would be a little concerned about using any of us (except Shi, Syz, Harp, a few other real pros and the computer whizkids) as primary experts.

Haha, why else is there an “fields of expertise” field on your profile?

I’m kidding… I’ll probably never do it, except to test my limits. Sometimes you guys are pretty damn articulate, though. I wouldn’t quote facts, but opinions. I’d have to check to make sure you’re not lifting from somewhere else…

I’m at a Canadian university.

I can’t think of a situation where I would reference fluther in an essay, but I have listed a similarly forum-based website (devoted to interlinguistic and translation issues) as a source. If I consulted it in writing the paper, I cite it.

Alright, I could perhaps see myself citing fluther if I were writing a paper for a sociology class, and I wanted to discuss a hypothetical situation, if I had gotten the idea of the situation from something on fluther.

I could also definitely see myself citing it for creative endeavors, such as shadling’s question the other day, about “What would a 20-year-old-male say” or something to that effect.

I don’t think I would cite fluther or rather I wouldn’t want to try. At least with the way my English teacher is cause she would probably yell at me

If you are going to use something from fluther CITE IT!
I have used easybib.com, but Knightcite.com is way better and you can cite the entire webstire or just a part of it. Plus, my english prof. told us about it.
