I do. I’m really worrying for you guys in America right now.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

I find it very disturbing.

You said you didn’t know if it was showed on U.S. stations. I hadn’t seen that clip, specifically, but it’s the same type of crap that was all over the press after a McCain rally in Minnesota that I based this question on about a week ago.

RH, don’t worry for us, we’ll be fine. I’m worried about Obama, with all these ignorant psychotic people who will be out to kill him once he wins.

trudacia's avatar

SICK!!!! INSANE!!! DISTURBING-EST!!!

deaddolly's avatar

Yes, there ARE ppl that think like that. Good ol boys…religious zealots…bigots.
I don’t worry Obama won’t win, I’m sure he will, but like La Chica, I worry him and his family will be in more anger than any other President before him. That’s so freaking sad…

El_Cadejo's avatar

JESUS FUCK…. I mean seriously?!?

“I’m afraid if he wins, the blacks will take over. He’s not a Christian! This is a Christian nation! What is our country gonna end up like?”

OMG RUN FOR THE HILLS THE BLACKS BE TAKING OVER EVERYONESSSSSSSS!!!

wundayatta's avatar

Most of these people are yahoos. No way they could figure out how to assassinate any President. I’m sure the Secret Service will be beefing up, because they will probably be plenty of plots to look into.

deaddolly's avatar

I’m sure Obama’s security will be super tight. I feel for his family; the world will change for them.
All we need is the KKK…surprised they haven’t reared their ugly heads yet.
Sickening.

Judi's avatar

I hope that this just represents a minority. I would love to know how hard it was for the interviewer to get these interviews. sigh…...... I am sad.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

It’s a little worrying. It would not surprise me at all if people attempted to assassinate Obama. However, like daloon said, most of them are too stupid to actually carry anything out. It’s the quiet ones that don’t show up and make a fuss right now that everyone should be thinking about. They’re the ones that will actually try to plan something out, which is a terrifying thought.

I think though, that no matter what happens, this country will be made better when Obama wins the election. I HATE to even say this, but even if some idiotic psycho does manage to murder him, the outrage from the rest of the country will be like nothing anyone has ever seen before. It will inevitably push the country in a better direction, no matter what. That said, I’m sure he will be safe because they know what they’re going to have to look out for.

SuperMouse's avatar

Disturbing? Yes. Surprising? No. Sad? Definitely. The person I feel most sorry for in that clip is the little guy being held by his father and spoon fed racism as a way of life.

@Judi, I’m afraid folks as ignorant as those interviewed are proud of their racism and see themselves as heroes for warning the rest of the country. I’m guessing they saw a guy with a microphone and camera crew and rushed to add their two cents.

@DD I and DD II* – we saw Obama during a campaign swing through our city. The place was swarming with secret service agents. We were in the nosebleed seats and had a perfect view of the snipers on both of the catwalks. They are taking no chances.

DeadDolly and Drastic Dreamer, DD I and DD II.

deaddolly's avatar

Good…glad they’re trying to keep him safe. I honestly don’t know why anyone would want to be President…

I feel sorry for the little boy in the video as well. It’s higher education that will turn things around for ppl like that.

Mtl_zack's avatar

one thing to realize is that the secret service are american citizens, and can possibly be people like in this video. if one of obama’s bodyguards is one of these guys’ cousin, then if a bullet came flying in obama’s direction, he would just stand out of the way.

SuperMouse's avatar

@ Zack, don’t they screen these guys pretty carefully? They must do background checks like you wouldn’t believe, interview neighbors, friends, former teachers, enemies, the barrista at the local Starbucks. I would really hope the secret service could reliably weed out the racists and fanatics.

jvgr's avatar

I think the clip raises 2 issues, now that I’ve seen the responses above:
1 The potential danger to Obama and family which is probably the least likely, but
2 The general rise in racism. While it hasn’t gone away, it’s been a while since I’ve heard such public racism.

@Judi: I don’t think it was too hard for the reporters to get the interviews, just a guess.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

I know someone who used to be in the SS. Super, they are quite carefully screened.

fireside's avatar

I think the problem is really one of exposure. Most of middle America isn’t really exposed to multi-ethnic situations, so they still hold on to the old beliefs. Though i agree that there are always going to be some that consider their racism a matter of pride.

I wonder if there’s a way to encourage that cross mingling of ethnic groups in comfortable settings and if that would have an effect over time.

I think 4 or 8 years of an Obama presidency with a lot of honest talk will be a good way to help break down those barriers too.

fireside's avatar

lol, supermouse, you really think they’ll interview the barista? I better be more friendly the next time i get some chai tea : )

DrasticDreamer's avatar

Yes… Not to do with Obama, but I remember when Bush was holding a dinner at a local high school in Portland. They had so many secret service agents roaming the streets that it was actually pretty terrifying. Not only that, but they also had three helicopters in the air, around all of the action. See… Portland is a very liberal city and Bush was not welcome here, to say the least. Especially not after what his father said about this city… Never forget that day.

Anyway, my point is, you can be sure that they’ll be very, very prepared for any situation that might arise. And, as La Chica just pointed out, you can also be pretty damn sure that they aren’t going to let just anyone protect Obama. They will be screened like you can’t even imagine. I’m sure their entire families will probably be screened, as well.

Also: I literally live in one of, if not the most liberal cities in the nation. There was a huge media hype not that long ago because someone hung a cardboard cut-out of Obama from a tree. Idiots are everywhere, unfortunately.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

Fireside, do you really think ”Most of middle America isn’t really exposed to multi-ethnic situations”? I would be curious about some evidence to back that up. I’m not saying I really have any going the other way, but it does seem like perhaps a bit of an over-generalization.

For example, most public high schools are quite integrated since the 70s, and while maybe people of different ethnicities don’t always eat lunch at the same tables, they at least sit in classes and work on group projects together.

jrpowell's avatar

They kept Bush alive for eight years. I’m sure they can do the same for Obama.

*And by keeping Bush alive I mean that he didn’t do something stupid enough to kill himself. pretzelsegway

fireside's avatar

Good catch, can I change my answer to “much of rural Middle America”

Just because high schools are integrated doesn’t mean that there is a diverse multi-ethnic situation.

Chicha – Here is a county by county map of racial makeup based ion the 2000 census. Of course the enlarged map is no longer available, but I am assuming that the blue areas are primarily Caucasian.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

Fireside, thanks! lurve to you! Very interesting! I have never seen anything like this!
Actually I think light blue might be self-reported German ancestry, because if you look at the pie chart above the map it has the same colors, and pretty similar looking ratios to the map, and you can read some of the legend. I wish you could enlarge the pictures, that would make it so much more helpful.

fireside's avatar

Here we go, check out page 8
You are correct about the German.

augustlan's avatar

I am quite literally sick to my stomach after watching that. Those fuckers. sorry, but I needed that!

La_chica_gomela's avatar

So do you think the little green dots of dutch are Amish communities?

fireside's avatar

Not sure, typically I think of the Pennsylvania Dutch when I hear Amish. I don’t see any green dots in PA.

shadling21's avatar

This vid has to be a hoax. No way are people that twisted nowadays…

Yes, it’s disturbing.

augustlan's avatar

@shadling: Oh yes, people are that twisted. copying my answer from another Q:

I had a man come into my home (to give an estimate on new windows) and spout off some of this nonsense! I had already signed the contract, and handed him a check for the down payment when we started talking about my husband being a John Wayne fan. He said “I guess he’ll be voting for McCain then, because he’s an honorable man.” This was before I had changed his mind… I light-heartedly said, ” Yes, and I’m voting for Obama. As you can imagine, it gets pretty interesting around here.” He then proceeded to tell me, in no uncertain terms that I had better rethink my vote. According to this man Obama is an evil, muslim, terrorist and a black racist who hates his half white background and will take it out on the whites. It was all I could do to keep my jaw off the floor and usher him to the door. I wish I’d had the guts to take back my contract and check and tear them up, but honestly, he scared the shit out of me!

shadling21's avatar

I’m amazed. Where do those people get their ideas?

Is that normal in the States? Judging people’s reactions on here, I’d think not. But how else can people think that is appropriate behaviour?

I’m glad I live in Canada.

El_Cadejo's avatar

yea shalding21 i wish i could tell you that people like this dont exist. sad thing is they do, and theres a lot more of them then you can imagine.

“But how else can people think that is appropriate behaviour?” because they are raised by racists that teach them that these ideologies are ok and they continue the vicious cycle of hate.

augustlan's avatar

People suck!

Edit: Ok, well not all people. These people, at least in public, are in the minority now…thank goodness.

deaddolly's avatar

Redneck ppl suck and that’s my term for the ppl on that video.
It’s a generational thing; passed on from parents to kids. Sad, but true. I think many of these ppl are less educated and are fine with that fact. When you hear the same thing your entire life; it becomes engrained in you. Hard to break away from that.
Not sure what the answer is for those ppl, but it’s certainly time for a change.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

Shadling I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there people like that in Canada too.

I know this girl who seemed perfectly normal, then she said to me, “I’m not racist… I just hate Indians.”

Judi's avatar

My first husband has relatives in Canada who are about as redneck as it gets.

jvgr's avatar

Sure, there are racists and rednecks in many places, but I haven’t heard the racist as vocalized anywhere in recent times to such an extent and in such a public manner.
