Is there anyway to change my font on my iPhone? If not, why not?

Asked by cdwccrn (3620points) October 19th, 2008 from iPhone

I’ve seen apps with fonts available but they are just for app developers. How about us users?

jailbreak your phone and check on cydia. There are some there

I am too chicken to jailbreak and don’t want to void my warranty.

No you can’t.
Because it’s a phone.

I have friends that are Apple Geniuses. They say that Jail-breaking your phone will not void your warranty, unless it directly leads to the problem. For example, if I jail-break my phone and download an app that turns off my microphone jack, take it to apple and say the jack is broken, my warranty is void, however if there are no programs on the phone that are effecting the jack and it still won’t work, they’ll fix it, (barring of course, it was something that was covered by the warranty.)
The only reason you should fear Jail-breaking is the fact that anyone who programs something for it, can take whatever they want off your phone without you knowing.
If you submit an App to Apple and they find something that runs in the background that takes your contacts, email addresses, and stored photos, they won’t publish the App, however, as far as I am aware, there is nothing stopping people on Cydia from doing that.
If you don’t use contacts, email, or photos, or you don’t care who has that information, then totally jail-break! it is so awesome. You can customize EVERYTHING on the iPhone, even the Text Message Ringtone and, I haven’t checked myself, but my friend says that you can even install an MSM program, just like a regular phone, however it removes the apple default text program and replaces it with the MSM one, according to him.

@cdw…The Iphone is the first “phone” that I have not been able to change the font on.

Maverick's avatar

That’s BS. I’ve owned dozens of phones and never once seen one that allows you to change the font.

wilhel1812's avatar

Yea, i’ve never been able to change the font on any of the cellphones i’ve owned.

judochop's avatar

Hmmm you’re right! It must be BS if you have never had one!
These are just my last two phones and BOTH of them let you change font.
Upstage by Samsung & the
Helio Ocean.
And why on earth would you have owned “dozens of cellphones?”

…also, wasn’t the iPhone supposed to be “revolutionary”? Even if no phone did it before, that’s no reason for new phones not to.

Sorry I couldn’t restrain myself

I had the AT&T tilt and you can change fonts on that one also. And as far as mms goes, it doesn’t replace apple text message app but is a seperate program to handle mms. I don’t use that feature but I’ve tried it. Also about the security question… Most apps on cydia are open source, so if you can search google you should be able to find the code

Hmm I was wondering @jtvoar16, what if I caused a problem with my iPhone by jailbreaking it then restoring the phone. One jailbreaked can Apple find out? Even after restored?

skabeep's avatar

I doubt they can tell so long as your phone is functional enough to put it into recovery mode. Even if you brick it which isn’t likely, usually you can still fix it. I had the touch screen of my 1gen iPhone mess up and I restored and sent off to apple and they had a new one for me in less than a week no charge.
