Is there a way to hook my ipod or Cowon D2 to my stereo receiver from the 80's?

iPod: connect either via the line out (from the dock connector) with a dock adapter, something like:

In either case, the media player connects to your system in the “auxiliary in” plugs in the rear of the receiver; if the receiver doesn’t have an Aux In, then use one of the other inputs (except Phono, which will amplify the incoming signal and cause distortion).

@sndfreQ – Your second choice is much cheaper than the first. I am still figuring out how the first one works. (LOL!)

Do you think there is a big difference in sound quality between your two options?

BTW, if we can hook up our ipods, cowon d2, creative zens and stone to our stereo then we should be able to get rid of our CD changer! Correct?!! Another benefit!

In most cases, no difference; just try not to drive the source’s output volume too high (the iPod or Cowon’s volume-set between 50 percent and 75 percent).

To switch between devices, you could invest in a switcher/signal selector, something like this:

Of course, if you are not sending video through your system, you need only look for an audio switcher (no need for an a/v selector).

@sndfreQ – just unplugging one ipod/mp3 player and then plugging in another wouldn’t do?

That would work too-just thinking of the more “elegant” approach to switching, allowing for convenience, and multiple connections.
