What is your God-given talent or gift?

Asked by charliecompany34 (7813points) October 20th, 2008

got a natural gift or talent that makes a lot of money for you? or do you have a talent that’s just going to waste? do you even know your gift? do you realize your children’s gifts early on?

I found things I always liked as a child. I then honed my skills over many, many years of constant practice and labor.

God doesn’t get any credit for all my hard work.

I’m a musician and designer. Generally speaking, an artist. And I only say that because they all require the same skill set to execute different elements.

Oh yeah, I have one natural talent—I can peel oranges keeping the skin intact in one piece.

Unfortunately I haven’t used it to its full potential, it’s just going to waste! I know, isn’t it such a shame?!

My playwriting teacher gave us a mantra, “fuck talent.”

I like to live by that.

Interesting question.

I don’t think we are born with specific talents. Barring neuro-, physio-, and psycho-logical disorders, I think we’re pretty much born with similar capacities.

I think, as we grow and learn to use our bodies and minds, we develop an affinity for certain types of activities and in favouring those activities become skilled in certain areas of endeavour. Our exposure to things is controlled by our parents, etc, so some do get biased in directions that may not be preferential.

If we’re lucky, we pick careers that match our affinity and skills and life gets better. @Spargett’s comment: “Generally speaking, an artist. And I only say that because they all require the same skill set to execute different elements.” generally speaks to this.

I think the number 1 responsibility parents haave is to expose their children to a wide variety of activity and begin to understand what their children develop as strengths to encourage them on to success. Parents who decide their children’s future should be drawn and quartered.

didnt mean to make this a darwinist vs God question at all, but can anybody explain how you got on earth in the first place? your gifts and talents come from God whether you want to believe it or not. can you explain birth? if you can explain birth and its perfection, then GOD is a flutherer who deserves all the collective lurve.

Besides being a sex god, I was given, by the other “God”, an incredible mail delivering talent.

@charliecompany34, really the only thing we can prove is birth being a conception, through our parents having intercourse, period. That explains how I got here, therefore it should have read “What is your Parent-given talent or gift?”. But we really know what you meant though. :)

Anybody can be whatever they want if thy put their mind to it. Its true. I do agree that some people are just born with some talents but you have the freedom to be whatever you want. Look up the Law of Attraction.

I’ve always been sort of mad at my talents. I’m good at music, but not amazing. I’m good at drawing, but nothing special. The list goes on and on.
But in general, I guess the artsy things.

Is being drop-dead sexy a talent?

It sure in the hell is. It’s a cross we both have to bear.

My DNA given talent is the ability to notice even the tiniest emotional shift in people. If someone suddenly becomes anxious, or excited, happy, sad, etc. I can detect it. Maybe it’s a body language thing. It was a great asset when working as a crisis counselor.

I can sleep absolutely anywhere. On the train, in a car, under a tree, standing…you name it.

Now if only the Sealy or Serta people would give me a job.

Artistic talents that have barely earned me any money. I hope to turn it into my career in the near future. A high(ish) degree of innate intelligence. I’m sure I’ve made a mistake in this answer!
