Can I use my Mac Office 08 disc again?

Asked by queenzboulevard (2553points) October 20th, 2008

I can put it on three computers, but does it take one from me if I uninstall it and re-install it on my Macbook?

Nope. You’re good to go.

Install at will, as far as I know Mac Office doesn’t authorize the way Windows versions do.

Yeah they aren’t as paranoid about Mac installs for some reason.

Apple puts trust in their users! :)

Too bad I was a little naughty and used my Leopard CD for 3 computers.

I was under the impression that in 08 there’s a user agent that sits on your Mac that checks to see if the licenses are in use on the network you’re on, on my mac it sits on port 3000 and there’s nothing I can do about it (which sucks for a rails guy).

Here’s a DoE article that explains how they actually don’t trust mac people: http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/techbull/CIACTech02–003.shtml

@skord: use Little Snitch. This allows you to set blocking on any port for anything that attempts to access network resources on your system. It’s great for ahem “borrowed” software.

@maccmann I have it, and for whatever reason, I can’t control that port binding, I haven’t OK’d it, I had to put in a ipfw rule to ban it. I don’t know how it works or how it does what it does.
