Well, it depends if you mean on the iPod Touch / iPhone or you mean for the iPod Touch or iPhone, you dont make that clear. Ether way, if your looking for something cheap, i’ve heard that the Amazon MP3 music store is a good way to do as its DRM free also, however personally i use iTunes, which of course works amazingly well with the iPod / iPhone.

Whatever you do, make sure it’s DRM-Free! You can use it forever, burn it, back it up, whatever. Recently, Wal-Mart’s shut down their DRM server, and if you’d purchased their DRM’d music (88 cents per track), you could never authenticate other computers, and if you lost it, it was gone forever. No good!

Torrenting… oh wait… a legal way

Torrenting is legal. All p2p is legal until you download something that you don’t own the copyright for.

I downloaded a torrent for the disk image of the newest version of Ubuntu this week 100% legally.

but how is torrenting legal?I’m a bit worried about doing something illegal because it’s not right and I love my 24hd imac.torrenting is nice but doesn’t the music industries and movie industries hate torrenting and take people to court?

@afghanmoose, torrenting is only legal if you download legal stuff :P

If you went on it and downloaded linux as @bodyhead suggested, that would be legal, and theres nothing your ISP can do about that, apart from slow your internet down.

If you downloaded a music album that was protected by copyright laws, then it would be illegal, as you didn’t pay for it.

what is Linux anyways

philo23's avatar

Linux is a free open source operating system, which is distributed via Torrents and many other methods. Its effectively a free to use, free to edit, free to redistribute operating system that you can do pretty much anything and change anything with.

so it’s like a mac os or windows

bodyhead's avatar

Right. It’s just an alternative operating system.

but I’m still looking for a legal way to download music without STM,similar to rhapsody but for the iPod or iPhone

afghanmoose's avatar

I mean without DRM

bodyhead's avatar

You are asking where you can pay and download music without DRM for use on your ipod? That’s a much different question then one about a ‘legal p2p’.

philo23's avatar

Well i can only offer the Amazon MP3 store then as a DRM free music store. It will work with every music player i can think as, as they are simply MP3 files.

@yellowboy, i dont think we can recommend that, atleast legally.

But on better news, the Amazon MP3 store is now online in the UK
