nope. adobe and apple cant agree on it or something. i also heard apple didnt wanna put it on because of battery draining, or if they made a slimmed down version that it wouldnt be good enough, and some other junk like that.

It isn’t going to happen, for a couple reasons:

1) Adobe cannot release their own third party player, because it would violate the iPhone development rules which state that you cannot use third party APIs. So Apple would have to authorize it.

2) Apple would much rather Quicktime became the standard for mobile video, instead of Flash.

and most importantly…

3) You can’t use the majority of existing Flash applications on the iPhone anyway. Some require the keyboard, some don’t. Do we display the keyboard all the time? Some of the time?

What about the size of the Flash application? It’s going to be tiny on the iPhone, since most applications are nearer square than iPhone screen size. If we scale down these 600px wide desktop-based applications to the iPhone screen, our text is going to be unreadable, and the controls impossible to manipulate.

How would drag work; shouldn’t drag manipulate the position on the web page? Do we enter some sort of Flash player mode? Can we resize the application? Isn’t that clumpy? If we resize and need to scroll, we lose our drag functionality.

sooooo…

Flash is really designed for a keyboard and mouse, not a touch screen. There’s too many problems to solve to make it work on this platform, and Adobe aren’t going to solve them.

Plus, I’ve already seen some sites start to swap out Flash video for Quicktime content when you visit them on an iPhone. As the popularity of the iPhone grows, so do the number of people visiting websites on them. It’s only a matter of time before swapping out Flash content for Quicktime video if the visitor is on an iPhone becomes commonplace.

I sure hope you are right, RH. It really restricts you currently. I can’t tell you how many times friends have sent a link to my email that sends me somewhere that requires flash. It really sucks at times.

@skabeep: Ah okay, I hadn’t heard about that. That’s actually very useful, but it’s still not Flash. It’s a halfway house that converts content to Quicktime.

Lurve for that link. I really works! Cool.
