Do you have an Xbox 360 or an Xbox? Have you played the first one, Halo: Combat Evolved before? Give us something to work with!
Well it depends on whether you want to play Halo 2 or play Halo 3.
Personally I would play Halo 2 first as there is a strong story arc between the two games.
Also if you get Halo 3 for your birthday you probably shouldn’t but it as well.
this yungbuck1314 i have an xbox but my mom said she’ll get me an xbox 360
should you buy something old or new? Always go new.
Halo 2 on a 360 is really glitchy, and the control scheme is a little whacked to fit the different controllers. Halo 3 on the other hand runs perfectly smooth and the controls make a lot of sense (because it was actually designed for those controllers). One thing for which I especially prefer Halo 3 is the dual-wielding system.
(Since you already have an xbox, I guess the glitchyness isn’t an issue.)
If you haven’t played Halo 1, go get that for 10 bucks somewhere. Play it all the way through and then hit up Halo 2 (ask for that). Enjoy the online play for a little bit, and then in great anticipation, go buy Halo 3 on your own in like a few months. But definitely go with the 360 now. That way you can play other games for it in the meantime. Halo 3 is definitely the climax though, it will blow your mind.
I would suggest you invest in a 360 and Halo 3. I would normally say its the best for online gaming, however, assuming your are young, that might be an issue for your parents (as is the cost of playing xbox live [dumbest, yet most successful idea ever]). The advantage with the 360 is most xbox games are coming to their version of “Virtual Console” so, I know that Halo 2 is due out sometime next year. Plus the plethra of games already out for the 360.
In summery, If your mom is willing to front the cost of the 360, I would go with that, with a note to say if you can buy new, DO THAT! buying used is a risk with the 360 (the red ring of death).
I assume you are probably like most kids (10–18) who don’t care about the story, you just want to shoot other people in the head and call them names, along with some form of strange speech that requires you to shut off half your brain to understand, so I would get Halo 1 cause that is fun to play with friends in co-op, skip Halo 2 cause it was glitchy, and far to unbalanced, then get Halo 3, play on co-op with friends, then head online (if you can afford it) and play some co-op on line, or some “death matches.”
One other advantage is xbox arcade. I swear by that system. You can buy games online and keep them on your console, they are cheap, and really addictive. Not to mention I find more of my friends play those then actual store bought games. And if your mom had reservations about using her debt card online, you can buy point cards at any store, including 7\11.
this is yungbuck1314 thanks for the responses :)
yungbuck1314, not to be mean, but you don’t need to say it is you every time, Fluther puts your nickname at the bottom of every post. ;) just letting you know, it’ll save you some typing time ;)
Oh, and your welcome! :)
I agree with chutterhanban. Playing through the whole trilogy is the best way to experience the story.
Also, if you play through Halo: Combat Evolved (commonly “Halo 1”, but I’m giving you the name on the box in case you go looking to purchase), you’ll appreciate the battle rifle more after not having it for an entire game. And you’ll get to experience the pistol at its best. Heck, you’ll appreciate all of the weapons more if they’re introduced gradually (except the aforementioned pistol, which you will miss).
Hey, the pistol is pretty good in Halo 3 online, you can score a head shot in three bullets. If you are going “uber-nerd” it takes 6 bullets from the combat rifle to score a head shot kill, but only two pulls of the trigger, plus the pistol does amazing melee damage and seems to have a larger radius of damage for cranial damage. But it is hard to tell when you are trying to beat in your friends head.
@jtvoar
I got frustrated with how slow the pistol in Halo 3 fired. It just… seemed slow. No scope and slow firing killed it for me.
I assume that by “combat rifle” you mean “battle rifle.” Really, two shots? I thought it was more like four. In any case, the battle rifle is certainly a good weapon. The pistol actually does normal melee damage, according to the wiki. I don’t use it enough to have any experiential data.
