Do you know of a method to get video off a firewire camera onto a new aluminum Macbook?

Asked by Spargett (5395points) October 27th, 2008

As many know, there is no firewire on the Macbooks. I have a friend who has company purchased Macbook to work on a video diary from the road, but the camera only outputs via firewire (1080p HD). Is there an alternative way to get the video onto the Macbook?

What kind of camera is it? 1080p HD is pretty high end, I would guess it records onto some kin of removeable medium (like a P2 card) so all you would need is the appropriate card reader which should be available as USB or ExpressCard

Well, before people ask. The reason they removed it is two, 1. they want to make difference between the Pro version and the normal MacBook 2. they want to stop firewire. It’s better for all of us to just use USB for everything and upgrade the USB technique when needed (USB 3.0) Most cameras today uses USB. It might be early to do this, but Apple doesn’t think that way ;) (And that’s great!)
