Remembrance Poem - Help Needed...

Asked by fabulous (574points) October 27th, 2008

I need to come up with a Remembrance poem for my nephew who passed away two years ago. I want it to be something really special. Can any of you give me some ideas.

I just not happy with the ones I’ve found so far.

It’s a Remembrance poem. It’s got to be personal.
Won’t mean much coming from a bunch of strangers.

Look at what you’ve already got.
Figure out why you’re not happy with it.
Tweak accordingly.

Perhaps more helpful than ideas about what to write,
would be trying to find ways to relive the pain you felt two years ago.

It sounds like a terrible thing to put yourself through again.
But maybe you could look through old photos and video?

I’m sorry for your loss. And good luck.

i want to start off by saying im sorry for your lose

this is the kind of poem that has to come from the heart so just think back to all his favorite things to do and play with favorite color stuffed animal all that then maybe about how much you miss him and how you feel now that hes gone.

Guys, please, with all due respect, this is hard enough for her as it is. You telling her it has to come from the heart is not helping matters at all. She’s been trying to figure out something for the last two days, and we decided the collective might be able to give a helping hand, or at least a push in the right direction.

We all know how intelligent and, when needed, compassionate the collective can be, she’s looking for a bit of this more than anything. Have any of you used a poem in the past that you thought was simple and beautiful for such situations?

I’m not trying to be insensitive.
(Though perhaps I can be without trying. Sorry if it came off that way.)

Personally, I can relate to wanting things to be just perfect.
In highly-charged situations, maybe even more so.
But you just have to realize that what you may think is less than perfect
is more perfect than what you’re striving for…because it’s from you.

This is also in Knot’s link;

Do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Here’s a short-short one by Raymond Carver. Like a little interview.

And did you get what you wanted from this life, after all?
I did.

And what did you want?
To call myself beloved,
to feel myself beloved on the earth.

Knowing the religious persuasion would be helpful.

The past was a treasure unfound
Bound by love so rich in tapestry
as i look at it with pain
tears of bitterness wells up in my eyes
I try comforting myself
with the thought of you coming back
but all i get is more hurt
I stare at the moon high in the sky
smiling down at me
does it feel my sorrows?
dear, why did it really have to happen?

Sunrise finds me lonely
Toiling through the day is worse
with the nagging feeling of no one
to welcome me home at sunset
dear, you were one amongst the few
whom cherishing was my hobby
Thank you for the little time we shared
i hope one time
you will walk trough my door
and ease my weeping heart
of the pain and suffering.
