Whats causing all this rain in the northeast?

in montreal, its raining buckets, and i heard on the radio that its also raining hard in the northeast of the states. i also heard that this isnt the end of it, and that wet snow will follow and then it will rain again, but harder. why?

I know what you mean!! I’m in Central New Jersey and we had 4 inches of snow by noon today. I drove to work in a white-out!! I wonder if it’s a harbinger of the winter we will have this year?
