What generalizations about genders have you heard. To what extent do you think they’re based in truth? If they’re not, why do you think people believe them?

I hear boys are made of snakes and snails and puppy dog tails…
It’s easier to commiserate under an umbrella of generalizations
than to really try to pick apart the specific details of A, B, or C.
Plus, sometimes it’s kind of funny.
I heard that men are assholes and women are crazy. I think anyone is capable of being a crazy asshole. I do my best to be neither, but fail occasionally.
A lot of these stereotypes just “are”: that is to say, they don’t come from one person, or group, but exist because people notice little patterns and then talk about them and so on and so on, and then they’re on television or whatever. Then, social scientists, under the influence of confirmation bias, “verify” them and then those flawed findings are frequently presented by social conservatives as reason why any change in gender roles will cause society to collapse.
Women are nurturing; men are strong and silent. Women can’t fix cars; men can’t keep a clean house.
People believe them because they make the world manageable—some people prefer to have their view of the world be simple and wrong than to have it be complex and accurate. And people believe them because they find comfort in them: it’s a lot easier to say “all men are slobs” than to realize that your man might help out around the house more if you asked him nicely, or to say “women just can’t fix cars” than to get out the wrenches and see if you can figure out what that rattle-rattle-THUMP is.
The stereotypes are true: for some members of each gender. But not all. Just enough to keep the ball rolling.
Not sure what you mean, but gay guys are the best dancers…
Men are dogs and women are bitches; unless you’re gay, then you’re both bitches.
I heard that women are gold-digging, manipulative, sluts, that only care about looks.
Oh, sorry, did I say heard? I meant experienced. :)
@Gokh_O you experienced all women? and you think they’re sluts?
