Can a "cliche detective" be a suspect?

Asked by Mtl_zack (6781points) October 30th, 2008

in detective movies, the detective’s job is to find flaws in the suspect’s aliases and whereabouts. the cliche for a detective is a guy who lives alone with no girlfriend, no parents, no friends (besides his new partner, who he just met and the partner knows nothing about him), drinks a lot, smokes a lot, carries a gun and sometimes does drugs alone in his apartment. he goes home after a long day and just goes to sleep/passes out. he usually has some sort of street connection. so, if the detective touched the murder weapon without gloves, couldnt he be a suspect?

If he really is cliche there’s got to be some painful flashback that accounts for his tunnel vision, he would also need to get the baddy by the end. I don’t know, that is like a koan or something.

Sure, why not?

Oh yes, the cliche detective is often a haunted individual with lots of flaws. But for one; his unbreakable trust in fighting for the good. So even if everybody suspects him, he will find the real perpetrator.

Although his means are often worse than normal, it’s the goal he cares about.
