Will you go shopping this Black Friday?

Asked by 2late2be (2292points) October 31st, 2008 from iPhone

I know it’s kinda early, but, I love black Fridays and I was wondering if you go shopping? What will you look for this year? I want to upgrade my digital camera…

Computer parts. I just built one and I want to add a second graphics card and another TB of hard disk space. Also, I’ll upgrade from 6GB RAM to 8GB. I plan on getting all that for under $600.

I would if I had any money, but I’m pretty confident I won’t.

Just thinking about all the craziness that goes on with that many people out and about shopping on this one day is enough to frighten me into staying at home.

And I’m going to be in the same boat, financially, as SuperMouse so I guess it’s a moot point in that regard also.

I make it a practice to avoid ALL stores that day! Money or no money, no way. We use that day to decorate for Christmas.

I guess working retail during college cured me of shopping on Black Friday, I never recovered from all the craziness.

@Ich…smart man! :)

I love peoplewatching, and my friends and I make a game out of how long it takes to park at the mall. I think that it’s such a hilarious display of excess. I don’t know if I’ve ever bought anything, though. Wait! I got all three seasons of Arrested Development for twenty bucks two years ago.

I never shop on Black Friday. I just refuse to get sucked into the hype of shopping for junk I don’t need, or going into debt for Christmas. I am usully tired after the big family party on Thanksgiving, so just happy to stay home.

H! No! I worked last black friday. I worked at COMPUSA and they had a crappy black friday ad and it was still crazy busy. I dont need anything that bad to suffer again. I’ll find better prices online thanks.

It depends. I have to work half the day, but sometimes I’ll do some window shopping to watch the crowds or elbow my way into a pair of jeans. Usually, by then, I’ve got most of my presents purchased.

I never shop that day. I celebrate buy nothing day, but also fear those crowds!

I like to go out if there are deals I can’t pass up, but I live in a large metro area where it also gets very cold in the winter, plus I’m the kind of person who’d rather stay up late and sleep in than get up early. But I’ve done it most years…last year really put me off it though. There were just too many people lined up at too many stores, too early, and there was too little organization within the stores to make it be successful.

If there are deals I can’t pass up on things that I have been intending to buy and have just been waiting for, and it seems I’ll have a realistic shot of actually getting what I’m after. If there’s a few too good to be true deals where there are only 3 per store, I’m not going to be waiting 4 hours or more in sub freezing temperatures to have a shot at being one of the people who if I’m lucky will manage to not only get hold of an item, but manage to keep it from being taken from me while getting to the cashier.

I know for sure I’m not going to Toys R Us or Circuit City, last year they had their heads so far up their asses they could taste their breakfast twice.

But having said that, usually there are some deals which draw me out where there are large enough quantities where I can show up maybe half an hour before the store opens, get in the mile long line and still be assured I’ll get what I’m looking for.

And this year brings two potential advantages. One is the economy is rough and retailers already placed their holiday orders before the bottom fell out, so they are going to have some damn good sales. And second, I’m not likely to be in any danger of losing my job, plus my wife just got a good job that pays fairly well, so we’ll have money to spend.

I’ll have to wait until I see the ads and do my own internal cost/benefit analysis.

I’m the kind of person that is willing to pay for convenience and comfort (this is America after all). No way do I shop when there are massive sales, or even on the weekend, for that matter. I hate crowds.

Maybe online.

EmpressPixie's avatar

I thought online was reserved for Monday?

augustlan's avatar

Hell no. I avoid it like the plague.

Judi's avatar

@empress;
lol, I don’t have an office to go to and buy on monday, so I might as well do it on Friday! I’m retired.

After reading this, I’m even more certain! Very sad.

I went e-shopping! 3 19” LCD monitors for $100 each, and 3 4gb sets of DDR2 800 RAM for $15ea. I love black Friday!

I feel sorry for the poor Walmart worker. As if having a job there wasn’t bad enough already. People should be ashamed.
