My Fluther account is broken—any ideas?

I no longer see the preview anymore, and when I press the “Answer!” button, nothing happens. I’ve tried logging out and logging back in. When I log back in, I get a message saying, “Oh, no. We couldn’t find /accounts/profile/.” And yet I’m still logged in. If this works, then all I can do is follow questions and ask questions.
If I don’t respond to your helpfulness, then you can probably assume that my account still isn’t working properly.

An easy workaround would be to download a different browser. If you’re using IE, then download and use firefox. If you’re using firefox, switch back to IE.
See if it still happens. If it doesn’t maybe you should try to download a different version of your chosen browser.
It’s probably your browser and not your fluther account.
Brilliant. I feel dumb now. Thanks for the obvious solution. I realized it was probably a browser issue, but it was only affecting Fluther—and for some reason, I didn’t think to try another browser.
I’m actually on a Mac, so I’m using Firefox and IE isn’t available. I’m typing this in Safari now. When I have time, I’ll go through safe mode in Firefox to try and isolate the problem (I hope I don’t have to start with a clean profile…).
Just back up your profile and then reinstall firefox. There’s probably a bunch of different extensions that will do that for you or you can just see here for instructions.
That’s probably the fastest way to get it working again.
hmm. Whenever I’ve had problems with Firefox (which I’ve been using since ~0.6), it’s the been the profile that’s corrupted. I’ll check it out, though. Thanks.
[Fluther Moderator:] Safari should work just fine; it’s actually more standards compliant than Firefox. Click on Safari in the menu bar, and then Reset Safari. Leave everything checked, and click Reset. Don’t worry, you won’t lose anything like bookmarks. Then come back to Fluther, and login. If you still have problems, it may be an account issue, so let me know and I’ll look into it. Hope this helps.
Also: Try using software update through the Apple menu. Make sure you’re running the latest version of Safari.
yeah, there’s no problem with Safari. Except that I have to switch back and forth from Firefox. :-)
Why bother using Firefox?
Safari is a superior browser…
Yeah I always use Safari.

We don’t need another Firefox vs. Safari thread. I like Firefox. I like my extensions. I like my keyboard shortcuts the way they are. You like Safari? Fine. I’m not arguing with you. I just happen to like Firefox instead.
Firefox has a similar function thatrichardhenry described. Go “Tools -> Clear Private Data…”. Tick “Cache”, “Offline Website Data” and “Authenticated Sessions”. Leave everything else unticked.
Hopefully this will clear everything up and you can go back to running fluther in firefox!
@richardhenry – can you objectively call one browser more standards-compliant than another? (OK, IE is obvious, but WebKit vs. Gecko?) It’s quite tricky to weigh one standard versus another, and specific parts of the standards, where one part might be more important than the other, etc.
@Vincentt: Safari’s upcoming Webkit build is the only rendering engine to fully pass the Acid3 benchmark of full compliance with the W3C guidelines. Firefox scores just under 80% at this point in time.
With no major flaws in either engine, it seems fair to call Webkit more compliant than Gecko, although I admit that neither browser should cause problems as described here, so my point was a little moot.
It’s obviously a problem with the browser having cached bad data retrieved from the Fluther servers, and not with the browser itself. Both Firefox and Safari should work just fine in this case.
Good call, chromaBYTE. I usually have Firefox set to clear the cache automatically when I close the browser, and I forgot that I had changed the setting when I was on an exceptionally slow network. I cleared the cache and it’s working fine now.
