Maybe, if he gets a second term. I find it highly unlikely that he’ll tackle something that is both relatively minor in the big scheme of things and so controversial in a first term if he hopes to be elected to a second.

I’m not down to get taxed for my herbals!! And what about our fellow dealers that make their money off of it and they hook it up pshh….I’d much rather give it to them than the goverment

When they invent a way to make it into a cheap, clean fuel that grows under drought conditions without chemical fertilizers or insecticides.

I hope all cannabis is decriminalized by Obama. As far as taxes I don’t really want to pay one on cannabis but it sure would make a lot of revenue that can be used for the American people instead of some drugdealers getting rich buying boats, flashy cars, and jewelry themselves. The root reason hemp was illegalized in the first in the 30’s was because the guys in charge were in the pulp paper business and hemp was cheaper and made better paper. But if they outlawed it then pulp paper enjoyed a monopoly and they got rich. So they created Reefer Madness and other propaganda so scare the public of hemp.

I assume you mean, grace it more legitimately than it already does?

@adri027 what are you talking about…. the question asked about Hemp not marijuana totally different thing.

@buster yeaaaaaa William Randolph Hearst is was an asshole…

fun fact ^_^
“REFUSING TO GROW HEMP in America during the 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries WAS AGAINST THE LAW! You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to 1769”

The amount of uses for hemp is rediculous, i truly believe if we made that one of our cash crops we could get out of this financial situation we’re in while at the same time helping this whole energy crisis(some of the first engines were actually built to run on hemp oil)

@überbatman: what are YOU talking about? Since when is hemp not marijuana? Yeah it would help this poor country with what’s going down but of course it would also be sold to smoke…

Hemp that is used as a fiber and oil producing plant is not the plant that makes the good kind of smokable ganja, Adri.

They’re related, yes, but just like some sheep make better wool and some sheep make better meat (but not usually both), Hemp usually has either a high THC content or is good for fiber, but not both.

adri027, smoke less, read more history. ;)

Hemp for fiber is not the same plant we know today as marijuana. uberbatman knows what he’s talking about (as does laureth). It was indeed against the law to not retain a portion of your fields for the production of hemp. Hemp was incredibly, incredibly important in this country up until the “Reefer Madness” propaganda scare in the 30’s. People were confused and didn’t realize the difference between the two plants, thus they banned them all.

It’s a shame, really.. you can get a lot of durable, important products from a hemp plant.

@adri027 i suggest you do some research before trying to call me out on something. Hemp like laureth said is breed just for the purpose of high fiber and has RIDICULOUSLY low THC volume. You couldnt get high off of it even if you wanted to, which is why i think the hemp ban is even more retarded. The government says they would hide marijuana plants in the middle of the hemp fields but this would never work, it would only dramatically lower the THC in the female plants (the ones you smoke) making them useless.

Has anyone ever used hemp conditioner ? Its like the greatest stuff ever heh

generalspecific's avatar

yeah, I just assumed we were talking about hemp as well as weed.
both should be legal anyway.

When will hemp be grown again?

When the will of the electorate causes the elected to get out of the pockets of the Cotton Council (the lobbying agency of the cotton production industry).

The largest recipient of campaign donations from the cotton lobbyists is: C. Saxby Chambliss Republican (Elected 2003), Georgia Senate [Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry (Ranking Member)]

Georgia is also the largest producer of cotton in the states.

Of course, this would also require elected officials to put a stop to the mis-information campaign that textile grade hemp is not a “drug”.

Write to your congressional representatives.

You can also check out this site about how the DEA has blocked efforts by a Pine Ridge Sioux band from trying to get itself out of poverty by growing HEMP

I saw a documentary on this last year.

Ha I should smoke less..but yo I was just voicing my opinion so überman I don’t know why you decided to comment on it obviously other people thought the same as me

adri027 – No snark intended here, but it does appear you were the only one vehemently arguing that the two are the same. If you’re going to take such a passionate stance on something, I will advise you that, around here, it’s best to find some sources to back yourself up. We got mad smart peepz in here, yo.

Bingo, jvgr. So much legislation is passed in the name of getting paid rather than what’s right.

Legally? “Never”! Hemp was planted extensively by the U.S.Government during WWII to make ‘Rope” as the Japanese cut off the supply of ‘Manilla’ hemp when they invaded the Dutch East Indies. The same for natural Rubber. Nylon made it’s big Leap in WWII.
