Is there anyway to block a paralysis strike?

Asked by wrestlemaniac3 (242points) November 2nd, 2008

for those who know me, I love to fight! and well maybe to much, I keep getting brought down by a kung-fu move known as the paralysis strike, I asked my sensei if he knew how to counter it…..he wasn’t much help. nope.

As far as I know there’s no such move, at least not by that name. Can you post a picture or video?

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

I can’t, but trust me I’m….well in simple words, i’m a spartan-type person and why don’t you let someone take their hand and strike you in the center of your chest and see if you can move after that. trust me on this because, you know, i’ve been there.

Stop with your delusions…

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

Delusions!!! the hell, You practice martial arts?

gailcalled's avatar

@Wrestle; maybe you have been hit in the head too many times.

asmonet's avatar

Haha, awesome, Gail.

gailcalled's avatar

Here’s what I found when I Googled.

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

Googled? yeah…uh, I take Taekwondo, karate, Aikido, weapons class, and hapkado classes, and you know what, I’ll ask someone else who’s not narrow-minded like you, and hopefully I’ll get answers instead of idiot-prancers. Archio Nact!

gailcalled's avatar

Hey, I tried to do the research and only came up with your question under “Kung fu; paralysis strike ” on google.

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

Well. allow me to educate you, you got a pen and paper ready?

asmonet's avatar

Don’t ask for help then throw a tantrum when what you receive isn’t what you had hoped. It’s childish. Isn’t every single one of those practices known for teaching respect and restraint?

I don’t know what the hell Weapons Class is though… very believable.

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

You learn how to wield weapons, katana, spear, chain, tonfas, bow, etc. anyway, Paralysis hit, grab your opponent’s limb, and strike, hard and fast at the pressure point or nerve ending of the limb, if done right the person can’t move said limb for about 3–5 minutes.

asmonet's avatar

I’m capable of inferring the things covered in a Weapons Class from the title. There is no ‘strike’ by that name. It is possible that it can happen through other moves, but your name for it is fictitious.

And I’m sorry but I can’t overlook one glaring ridiculous statement… you asked your sensei about kung fu. Are you serious? If you really took those courses at the very least you ould have known to ask your SIFU.

Sifu: Kung Fu
Sensei: Karate

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

well there might be another name, but tis what I call it. unless you know the name, but….

asmonet's avatar

A sifu teaches Kung Fu, your sensei couldn’t answer those questions worth a damn.

Just… stop. Serious.

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

You know I’m not going to put up with a narrow minded person like you, if you don’t know jack-squat about it then don’t bother arguing it. unless you had a head-to-head experience then you’re not allowed to comment and slander on such a noble art.

asmonet's avatar

Everyone in my family has taken Kung Fu and Karate, and in some cases have won tournaments.

And I haven’t slandered a thing, not even you. And I wasn’t planning to.

gailcalled's avatar

It’s libel, folks, if it is in print. Slander refers to speech.

asmonet's avatar

Shhh, Gail, let him dig his hole. :)

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

I’m not digging anything, and if I am, it’s for you, and one more thing you said some cases, if you’re gonna win, it should be ALL CASES, anyway, I studied in China, and South Korea.

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

If you have nothing at value to offer to the topic then don’t answer to it at all, and the sifu, we call him sensei. if that’s a problem….

joeysefika's avatar

OMFG! China, South Korea, well you must be a big shot! I would just like to say that my Karate instructor is a 5th Dan Shihan, his instructor is Hanshi Tino Ceberano, no an 8th dan, trained under Miyagi and Gogen Yamaguchi and guess what he says? There are no ‘paralysis’ strikes. “pressure point or nerve ending of the limb, if done right the person can’t move said limb for about 3–5 minutes” sounds a heck like a dead limb doesn’t it? you know, when you knee someone in the leg and they get pins and needles and can’t feel it? you use it in Judo, the inside of the leg to get your opponent off you in Newaza.

As for death strikes, they are just stupid, sure you can smack someone in the sternum hard enough to collapse lungs, smack someone on the temple hard enough and you can knock them out or kill them. With a upper palm strike you can force the nose into the brain killing them. These are all ‘Death Strikes’ yet the mystical i flick you here and your heart explodes is quite frankly a load of bull shit!

Instead of questioning your Sensei or Sifu (which is correct for Kung-fu) or whoever might train you just listen and pay attention and in time he will tell you. Martial Arts are just that, an art. Not everything can be taught to you, you have to be patient and wait. In the mean time read lots and lots of books and martial arts magazines, try and understand your art more then you might be able to comprehend the techniques.

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

ARCA MALBARDA!! You…..ugh! books, mags, stupid….there are things that books can’t help you with!! Miyagi!!! okay Ralph Machio, know what you thing you’re tough stuff, have you ever been in a fight in your life, I was partially raised in the projects, so know what, when you get into a few scuffles yourself then you tell me!!! OKAY!

joeysefika's avatar

What the fuck! Miyagi was a real person, one of the founders of Karate! I don’t think I’m the FUCKING KARATE KID!
Here we go again, the Projects, wow sorry I forgot everyone’s a hardass in America. I was bought up in New Zealand, do you know where that is, no, no its not next to Old Zealand.
Anyway I was getting smacked around by 6ft tall Maori’s when I was 10, who the hell is 6ft and almost 90kg when they’re ten! i was only 5’1’’ at the most. Why do you think i took up martial arts? I needed to know how to fight!
Anyway, I don’t want to continue this name dropping, ‘mines bigger than yours’ argument.

asmonet's avatar

This is ridiculous.

Ciao,peeps.

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

New Zealand? well that explains a lot, see ya…...freak.

joeysefika's avatar

Alright sorry, I guess you’re admitting defeat. But I would think you’re the freak, Vampire, Necromancer and part Shade? ah well later Bro

wrestlemaniac3's avatar

you got mail….

eambos's avatar

Lol!! The wierd shade vampire thing-a-majig just called a normal intellegent person a freak! You do realize @thefreak that you just “casted a curse” over the Internet, right?

Ok, wrestlemaniac. I noticed a lot of testosterone fueled responses and I have to say you should calm down. I understand that you are frustrated by the answers given, but search within yourself and see that the nature of your chi is projected as very chaotic right now. The true answer to your question is to wait for the opening, focus your chi, and then strike with the intent of protecting yourself from the incoming attack. Sense the path, the wave of disturbance directed toward your chakra and then attack your opponent where your opponent intends to attack you first.

I have been in many fights, but the best ones are the ones that don’t happen. That is when one can truly be called a master. For me, fighting is now an art I use only to defend, and only enough force necessary to keep those I love safe, including the forbidden 點脈 should I ever have to. I grew up in the hood, I have been jumped by 6 people and took three of them down before I ran away. I will not give the name of the arts I have studied on the open internet but I have studied many, kung fu, taekwondo, karate, muhy thai, akido, thai atari, and a few others unmentionable here. I know what you are talking about, but your responses make you appear less than you truly are.

In short, the only way to block it is through offense, and use the opponent’s move against him.
