Actually, I don’t form strong images of people. I just kind of develop a sense of their online being, and work with that.

Yes. I thought at least two people were a different gender, one of them is aware of this. :P
And all my fluthercrushes have faces in my head. Shadling, you’re one of them.

It’s a byproduct of being an artist who does a billion portraits a week though. I’m so used to imagining faces and people, clothing and mannerisms I just can’t help it.

I should add that for those I’ve seen photos of, I can’t always remember their faces and would have to go back to those threads to take another look. But each username and avatar creates a certain aura around their quips that is unmistakably theirs.

@shdling: Definitely a chick. PSSST, one of the people I thought was a dude is in here! :) And I agree about posts being forever associated with the poster and the unique vibe it gives off. Not everyone has a face in my head. Nimis certainly doesn’t, she is forever going to be a little green thing wearing glasses. I like it that way kind of.

Oh, and how could we forget the smart ass six year old AstroChuck? who keeps getting younger…

I never have a vision what someone looks like unless their av is of them. Even then, I seldom look at their av and rather envision them as my minds eye sees them. For instance, gail is not a vase of flowers. She is a gentle, kindly woman sitting by her fire with Milo on her lap. I also picture her with longish graying hair.

John Powell is a 5’11 with great hair and an impish grin. And big balls.

One exception, I guess, is Judi. Her av is so easy to see, although she reminds me of Calista Flockhart.

As for Asmonet, her av keeps changing and I have two distinct images: The cute imp bouncing around in flouncy hippie clothes and flowers in her hair and the dark haired sexy imp dressed a little more conservatively. Her posts make me envision one or the other based on the content of the post.

The mind is a wonderful, playful tool…

EDIT: Yes, totally. I only see faces because I associate certain features with certain personalities, same as authors do when describing a character – if anyone doesn’t get that, read the Gormenghast Trilogy plenty of examples. As for you Sueanne, I imagine you’re feisty with lots of facial expressions when you talk, for some reason you’re almost always arching your eyebrow. Also, you have fantastic boobz and killer cleavage.

You forgot the rock hard, tight little 49 year old butt. Umm…boobz are great, but no so much cleavage….I do have many facial expressions and I also make up little songs and sing them when doing things around the house while doing little actions. Nice call AS~

I always picture Flutherites in my head. Kind of a blurry face but a definite body type, gender, and mannerism.

I also imagine we live in this ideal community together (complete with gas lamps, a duck pond, and cookies – oh, the cookies)

Well, asmonet, I have seen your face, so I kind of know what you look like (pretty and cute). But your personality? I picture you as impish, funny, and smart. Rushing around to do all the things you need and want to do. Having fun, but paying attention to the important things in life. All together a positive image!

@aug: You missed most of us. We’re now most of us sleeping so’s we can get our vote on. Tonight was my first night and it was hella fun. :)

Let me see if I can very briefly describe some of the sketchy impressions I get of people here based on their usernames, avatars, and activity.

- “asmonet” conjures the idea of an artist playing thoughtfully with colour and form.
– “augustlan”, accompanied by an official-looking avatar, makes me think of a more serious and sensitive personality. Enduring.
– “cprevite” makes me think of a shellfish. And now, cookies. Coolness and warmth at the same time. Sharp edges, but smooth.
– “Snoopy” – literally, the character of Snoopy, with the same personality and charm. ;)
– “poofandmook” sounds playful. The name “poof” makes me think of a magician mysteriously appearing and disappearing.
– “Nimis” is simply fun to say. The avatar gives you an air of intelligence (as do your words) and resourcefulness.
– “Seuanne_Tremendous”, whose name is as tremendous as it proclaims, is bold and fun. The avatar adds to this.

I’m not sure if these descriptions are at all accurate, but I think they’re interesting. It’s hard for me to actually imagine physical bodies attached to these fleeting spirits. Maybe if I spend more time in the chat, the real-time connections will make me more fully realize that you guys are human in the most immediate way.

@shadling: That “official” looking avatar (funny how I never thought of it that way!) is actually because I lurve letters, and needed a simple av (anything too busy hurts my head). My 14 year old daughter made it for me, and she was so disappointed when I wouldn’t let her add stars or squiggles to it, or even let her make it off-center!

Maybe official is the wrong word. “Imposing”? “Dignified”? Just a pure (star-free!), strong representation of yourself. I love lurve it, and I considered copying your A with a nice S.

@Shadling: In real life, I actually collect “N“s, due to my last name, but I thought it’d be confusing if I used an N here. Your avatar and your dance background make me think of you as a whisp of a free spirit. Light and airy in physical form, weightier in mind.
