Why does iTunes not have any Beatles albums listed in their search?

Seems kind of bizarre to me. They list Beatles cover bands, tribute albums, etc., but I can’t find any albums (Rubber Soul, The White Album, etc.) Can anyone explain this to me?

iTunes can’t list what people don’t gie them permission too. They haven’t been authorized to list Beatles albums. Torrents!
EDIT: Usually, that’s the reason, you maye be searching for the wrong thing though. Try clicking through Paul’s work or something related and follow the links. :)
When i search any Beatles albums they come up…..? maybe restart the computer.
Thanks asmonet. Interesting! I wonder why they are not on board with iTunes?
Really fieldhockey10? What albums did you search?
They’re The Beatles…
They’re TOO good for iTunes.
with the Zune, the whole discography will show up in a search, but it may be listed as “not available” if they don’t have the permission to make it up for download.
I think it’s because The Beatles released their stuff under the record label called Apple Corps. And since The Two Steves (Jobs and Wozniak) called their company Apple Computers Inc.. (Now shortened to Apple Inc.) there’s been trouble between The Beatles and Apple Inc. ever since. I think that’s why The Beatles won’t let Apple Inc. release their music on iTunes. Correct me if I’m wrong.
I’d forgotten about that! Thanks man. :)
That makes sense wilhel. Thanks for that interesting bit of trivia!
I would have blamed it on Yoko Ono though…
wilhel is totally correct, but that conflict was recently resolved. iTunes may begin selling Beatles music within the next year or two!
Why would I pay for what I can torrent?
@wilhel: From my understanding, the conflict didn’t begin until fairly recently. I was told that the agreement that was drawn up between the two companies basically stated that so long as Apple Corps didn’t get involved in the computer industry and Apple Inc. didn’t get involved in the music industry, they were fine and dandy sharing the namesake fruit. But once Apple Inc. started up iTunes Apple Corps saw it as an infringement on their agreement and refused to allow any bands under their label to be sold through the iTunes provider.
I could, however, be very wrong and have nothing but hearsay to back that up.
get the number one album on cd and upload it into your iTunes library, then you can put it on your iPod. You will wAnt all those songs anyway
@MrMeltedCrayon: I think you might be right. This article from 2003 announces that The Beatles sues Steve Jobs. That’s two years later than the release of iTunes, however the iTunes Store didn’t launch until April 2003. That’s just a few weeks after the news article was written. So i guess you’re absolutely right! Lurve for you!
And BTW, according to Wikipedia The Beatles isn’t the only ones that won’t let their music be sold through the iTunes Store, you won’t find Garth Brooks, Tool, AC/DC, Kid Rock or Bob Seger on there.
@Eambos: I agree. In a similar situation recently I was going to buy a car, but then I stole it!
This situation is different. No one is stealing a physical thing. You are just getting a copy of some data, not comprable to taking a car. Let’s not get into the whole “Should P2P be legal?” discussion.
Was that car a red sedan? Mine went missing recently.
@Eambos: I was parodying the anti-piracy ads, I agree wholeheartedly on the P2P issue, it’s definitely not stealing.
Plus, it was a stretch Hummer…
Michael Jackson owns the rights to the entire Beatles catalog. Therefore, iTunes can’t sell music by the Beatles without Michael Jackson’s permission. But supposedly he is in jeopardy for losing the rights to the catalog?
Didn’t he sell those rights?
