one of my college professors seems to think so. he offered some pretty solid facts too.

Actually my husband think so, now that Obama was elected president, he thinks he is the Devil, LOL!

People have periodically though the world was going to end. It hasn’t yet. I see no reason why 2012 is more than just another arbitrary apocalypse date in the lunatic Outlook calendar.
he mentioned the mayan calander among other things. he showed us a youtube video also, i know this has very little creditability- but it makes you think. ill try to find it.
The only solid fact I’ve ever heard for this theory is that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. However I’ve also heard of this book.
It’s easy to get caught up in romantic theories of impending doom predicted by ancient civilizations who were somehow privy to knowledge that we cannot access. But I’ll believe it when I see it.
(Or at least when I see some compelling evidence that isn’t just about someone’s calendar.)
I remember hearing about a world war in 1997, the end of the world in 2000 and the end of the world again in 2001. So there is nothing to make me think that the world will end on 12/21/12
Jividenm – tell your professor that the Mayan calculator can still continue to be used beyond 2012, it is just that the Mayans stopped making calculations beyond thousands of years in their future.

my professor had a slew of other things, i cant remember them all, he made a good argument. i think he just wanted to jolt our thinking habits.

Its all because of the Mayan calender that stops counting in 2012. The Mayans never thought that they will be able to live to see human progressing until year 2012 thats why they find it unnecessary to count beyond 2012
There are a lot of prophesies and predictions out there, some are quite fascinating and give certain celestial events as “signs of the end of days”. The popular religions have their predictions, if you follow them, even a count down via different prophesies. None of them seem to refer to a specific date except your Mayan calendar, as you mentioned. If you do a Google search under “end of days” or “day of judgment” you see all kinds of information under Wikipedia. Maybe that’s some of what your professor was referring to as well.
Personally, I hope not! 4 years is not a long time for us to get our affairs in order.
Has anyone ever thought that the Mayans just got lazy, I mean they lived a long time ago and making a calender go so high seems pointless. If we had to do it all by hand, without computers I’m sure we’d give up after calculating 500 years let alone more than that.
My calendar stops in December… this could be bad…

Ok, all of these cycles the Mayans predicted ended ages, the age of ice, the age of fire, the age of large animals killing men, etc… We currently are living in the culmination of the age of Earthquakes…funny how they knew that too!! I do not believe the world is going to end, i truly believe we are entering a new age of existence, there must be chaos before enlightenment can occur and tribulation before edification can ensue. I believe the new age will be one of enlightenment and heightened spiritual evolution. It will be the age of individualization and reintegration with the global mind and a reconnection with the planet. Sorry for the new age jumbo mumbo but this is what i believe. Peace and love y’all!
