They’ll give you a ticket.

Is it illegal to engage in a behavior that is specifically meant to help others break the law? I’m pretty sure. In more serious crimes, isn’t that accessory after the fact? Because they’ve broken the law and you are helping them not get caught?

but people are not necessarily speeding when you do it to them.

No i don’t think its illigal. Speed traps are useless anyway. They are a waste of money and survey in Britain shows that it does not help to cope with the motorway accidence. One reason might be that, people are becoming aware and try to look out for speed traps instead of concentrating when driving. Nowadays cars are equipped with better safety features and money spent on speed traps could be use for other purposes such as educating people on the road safety.

It’s use of headlights without a reason, which is illegal in some states (distracting to drivers, etc.).

Yea like i said in the other thread im pretty sure its illegal. I dont really understand why because even though your alerting of the cops, your also telling them not to break the law (isnt that a good thing?)

How would they know you were signaling to them that there’s a speedtrap?

They might think you’re telling them they have their brights on.

simone54's avatar

Well I don’t know where you live where cops are great and awesome but that probably won’t get you out of the ticket.

@elchoopanebre that excuse could work at night sure, but what about in the middle of the day.

any time you aid and abet in light of law, you are an accomplice. allow drivers to willfully drive and let law enforcement be the authority.

usually use a double quick flash. at night the same, most drivers know the double quick flash notes a black and white in the bushes. if you are stopped, “officer, I was flashing that guy without his lights on…......? Does anyone know of anyone who ever got a ticket for speed trap warning?

elchoopanebre's avatar

@uber

No, I was saying how would the other motorists (not cops) know what you were signaling to them when you flashed your brights?

El_Cadejo's avatar

@elchoopanebre because we all know what the flick of the lights means, otherwise we wouldnt be having this conversation now would we :P

(ie if someone flashes their highbeams at me i think “is there something im doing wrong right now? are my high beams on? if the answer is no to both, they were most likely telling me about a cop)

@uber
I never would assume that… I am a little motoristcally challenged, though.

(Mainly because I prefer to ride my bike everywhere).
