Wouldn’t it be useful to be able to see how many people are following a question?
I might answer a question differently if I knew an unusally large number of people were observing. Depending on the question, sometimes I sense that there are many more folks lurking than just those who have answered already. When that’s the case, I’d like to know that.
It wouldn’t really infringe on anyone’s privacy. Right now we can see how many people are observing the question in that moment. I don’t care about that as much as how many people are following and will see the next response.
I’m curious about others’ opinions on this topic. Is this a good idea?

I guess… It could be good… if you wanted… But as long as it’s just how many people, not who, cause that would be kinda invasive.
I don’t understand why it would matter whether 2 or 20 people were following the Q. Would your answer quality change? Mine would not.
My way of answering wouldnt change, but id still like to see it. I think id be pretty cool to know how many people followed your question or something like that.
I don’t know if I’d find it useful, but I would find it interesting.
@Aug, yeah, that sounds right. I don’t know that it would change my answer either, but it would just be interesting to know. (And for me, more interesting than knowing who’s observing at the moment.)
@Shrubbery, yes, I was thinking that we definitely wouldn’t see who was following, just how many people.
I’ve always wished I could see how many people were following my questions, just to satisfy my own curiosity to see which ones people found more interesting than others, even if they didn’t have an answer to them.
Exactly!
I’d love to have Andrew or Ben weigh in on this one, if possible. Are you lurking?
It would be interesting to know, but it might not be a good thing?
I think that type of feature would move the focus away from answering
the original querer and move more towards performing for an audience.
This could both attract people who are hungry for attention and turn off people who are more timid.
i suppose it would be a pretty good idea . . . but exactly why would your style change if you knew how many people were watching? I mean, unless you’re some pompous-Odysseus freak, you would answer with just as much heart, criticism, and the like, wouldn’t you?
